30-30 surpressed

Not finding much on 30-30 subsonic loads or shooting it surpressed. I just picked up one of the new Marlin/Ruger, it’s threaded. Installed a a Diligence Defense can, just shot it a few times. Too much fun, shooting stout loads, calms what recoil there is and makes it easy on the ears. The skinner sights are very usable with the surpressor installed. I’d like to load some subsonic ammo. The 16” barrel makes this very usable, not too long. Any experience? Please share

Thinking I should go that route, but with a red dot. About the only rifle I can't shoot suppressed is my 30/30.
I may be following suit. I loaded some 150 round nose jacketed a bit ago. Shot four rounds with H4895. It’s a mild load, pretty quiet but not Hollywood quiet. I’m gonna load 50 of those but keep looking. I have 5.5 cans of trail boss but I use that in my 45 colts and don’t want to burn it up on this project.

I would think that sub-sonic load data for a 308 would work. All you're trying to do is launch a bullet a little below 1100fps. I use Trailboss in my 308's with 150-220 gr bullets but i'm starting to watch my Trailboss supply too.

Yeah, I wish trail boss was obtainable. We used a lot of it pre Covid for a variety of firearms, it allowed the wife and daughters to shoot 45 Colt, 45-70, whatever and they really enjoyed it. Saving what I have left for my 45 colts. This H4885 load has been fun, I go out on the porch and have been shooting a 12”12” gong I have up at 100 yards off hand with the skinner sights. Which is the idea, have fun!
Try 6-8 grains of Alliant Unique powder under your favorite bullets and work up or down from there to 1050 fps ;) it’s fun!
I have a bunch of Unique. Have you used that in a 30-30? Are these pistol powders position sensitive inside the case? If its all piled up behind the bullet with a gap between the powder and the primer, does a guy need to use a filler and keep the powder next to the primer. This is where I don’t have much experience.

I use Unique in Everything!! No fillers needed. Use standard primers. It’s not position sensitive at all and is very accurate and quiet. Just for example. I’ve gone down to 7 grains in my 3006 with great results. My go to load is 245 gn cast over 9 grains unique right now, suppressed.

Hodgdon lists several subsonic loads on their site using the Hornady 175 gn Sub-X bullet and commonly available powders. I'm sure you could swap in a more typical 170 gn 30-30 bullet thats not so spendy with similar results.

This has been a lot of fun. Been loading 170 grain flat points with H4895, speeds of 1350 for one load and 1050 for another. Then played around with unique, that load is running 1050 after finding the charge I needed. My Redding 10x won’t through a consistent charge with unique, I have to trickle up so it takes more time, not a big deal. My brother came over today and we sat on the porch and shot one gallon water jugs with the wimpy 30-30 loads and some soft 45-70 loads on the hill 80 yards away, both surpressed. Too much fun. Just wanted to say thanks for the input, it was appreciated

Now I need one of those new Marlins 357 levers, just waiting for a decent price on something threaded, either the Dark, 1895 or trapper.

If Teddy Roosevelt was still around he might be able to give you some pointers.

Love the idea! That’s the poster child weapon for a zombie apocalypse. Lol!
