30.06 AI at 500 to 1000yds

I am considering a 30.06AI light gun for long range 500 to 1000yd BR. Rifle will be based on a Stolle action, richards microfit BR stock and Krieger barrell.
Will this calibre perform at that range ?
What would be the best barrel twist rate ?

There are a LOT of much better cartridges for this. Why the 30-06 AI?

Several years ago there were several people shooting 30.06 imp guns at Eatonville Wa 500meters shoots. Now they have all moved to 6.5-284 or a 6mm of some kind.
The 30.06s shot well, but the others are easier to shoot.
And the range is 600 yds now too.

Only a couple of years ago, a 3006AI held the NBRSA heavy gun group record. Of course, there has been many IBS wins and championships won by the Harris boys and their wives with a 6.5 O6 AI.

I agree that the 3006AI is a good round, but you can simply do much better match to match with a 6.5 or a .30 mag.

Even a 7mm like a 7 WSM or 280AI..etc would be a better choice with the high bc bullets.
