30-06+168 gr. berger

I plan to shoot a 168 grain berger out of my tikka t3 30-06 this next hunting season.. I was wondering if any body has any experience with this bullet or what some good powders and loads are?

Also just out of curiosity does anybody have any experience shooting the 30-06 at long ranges?

IN my 30-06 im using Vit N150 and pushing the 168 berger classic hunter at 2880 fps out of a 23" kreiger barrel. Hope this helps

I'm shooting 190 SMK for informal long range target shooting out of my 30/06's (3). I would suggest going to the 185 Berger for long range. BC is like diamonds, holding value forever. Velocity is like buying a new car, instantly starts losing value. I'm shooting Hornady 180 gr. Innerlock for elk hunting. I haven't been shooting over 400 yards though. Haven't needed to. I'm just a cow elk meat hunter.

What is the difference between the classic hunter and the vld? The vld has a better bc, correct?

The classic hunters ogive is designed to keep your overall shorter for mag dimensions. Depending on your throat, typically long in factory tubes, the VLD's close to the lands can be very long and not fit your magazine. Probably info on their website.

So Becasue the classic hunter is shorter than the vld, does that mean the balistic coefficient is less?

according to berger's site the classic hunter has a better BC G1-0.496 to the VLD's - 0.473

But thee Bergerac for the 6mm are different. The 95 grain vld has a g1 bc of .48. And the 95 grain classic hunter has a bc of .427.

Why would the 30 cal bullets be different from the 6mm if they have the same design?
