284 Winchester load data using 185 Nosler RDF

You might be asking a bit too much from the .284 Win especially if this a a loooong bullet and if your rifle is a short action requiring you deep seat this bullet way down below the shoulder. Can't imagine you would get the velocity you need if planning to shoot long. No data on the Nosler website.

Asking a lot from 284
I’d definitely look a R26 because of it’s density and maybe R23.
With a case capacity of 66 grains of water I’d probably start at 52-53 grains of R26 if it’s loaded long.

Unless you have RL26 in your possession it has been fairy dust for at least 6 years. Other powders close are N560, Magnum, Magpro to name a few.

No load data with Nosler RDF's, those things just don't shoot. A buddy of mine ran them for a bit because he couldn't get his hands on Berger, but I shoot a 284 Shehane with Berger 184gr hybrids and with Peterson brass run a mild load of 50.4gr of 2209 (H4350). This runs around 2800fps which is a sweet spot - I've got single digit ES and SD at this point and it holds up well at 1000 yards. If you are using Peterson brass - I'd start around 50.2gr and work up slowly with H4350. If you're using Lapua, it has more internal case volume and you may want to consider starting around 50.8gr and work up with H4350.

If you are experienced with the 284 you'll know the case head is the weak point so I'd advise against running hot loads unless you've got a ready supply of brass and don't mind chucking it after a few firings.

The 185 RDFs work ok. They like lots of jump.
Ran H4831SC and H4350 with ok results.

50. something with 4350 seemed a little hot and 54. something with SC seemed ok. Only used for forming.

There's a reason their nickname is Radom Da-- Flyers, I have never had great outcomes with any of the RDF bullet's in several different calibers. Save your time and supplies and go with 180 Bergers Or 183 Smk's.

Oh yea, I got a bargain on 500 185 RDF during a 7mm draught….
178 pcs made weight with the rest being as much as 1.5-2 grains high or low…!
Didn’t bother checking base to ogive & they will eventually get used up fire forming. Found out quickly why it was a bargain!
I did shoot some that all weighed the same and they just would not group less than 4”-5” at 300… {:~(
I use Berger 184’s in my .280AI and they are going very well at 2830.
Perhaps some Berger 180 Hybrid for your .284 and I haven’t used the Sierra in my .280AI but do use their 107’s in my 6BR and they perform well.
I should think that Sierra is just about the oldest large manufacturer of projectiles in the country and that alone speaks of their quality or they would have disappeared long ago. Price point is good as well.
