.284 Winchester bushing size.

Hi folks I was just wondering if somone could give me an idea of what bushing size to use.
Its for a .284 Winchester and I have a Redding S type neck die.
I just need an idea of what size to select.
Before anyone asks I have no loaded ammo to deduct 2 thou off to select as bushing.
It is for a future project but want to prep some brass and iron out some dents in necks.
Cheers
Dave

take the neck wall thickness x2 and add bullet diameter=loaded diameter. subtract .002-.003 from that or whatever your desired amount of tention and that is the bushing size. i would pic 3 bushings--one bigger, smaller and the size that your math came up with.

I'm using Winchester brass as I also run a 6.5-284 using lapua brass, so it may avoid confusion.
Thanks for the replies so far.
Cheers
Dave

I just spot checked 5 pieces of 284 Win Winchester bulk brass. Neck walls varied from 0.014 and 0.0155 inches per side so let's call it 0.029 to 0.030 inches plus the OD of the bullet 0.284 inches. So 0.313 to 0.314 inches loaded neck. Then a 0.311 would give you 0.002 to 0.003 of tension and a 0.312 bushing would give you 0.001 to 0.002 inches of tension. If you have a no-turn chamber, either should get you started

The .284 specs of the past are not the specs of the present.

My reamer cuts a .3165 neck. and I use a .310 or .311 bushing with the seated bullet my necks are .3125.

The rule for the .284 is a little looser is better.

The factory throats of the past were .320.
