284 win and RL17

Has anybody had any luck with RL 17 in a 284 win? If so how much powder,and what kind of velocities are you getting? I'm shoooting 162 a-max and 56-57g of 4831, seems alittle hot just want same speed with less pressure without loosing accuracy. Any help would be appreciated.

I found 52.0 to 52.5 grains of Re-17 to give me the best groups. with 140 grain Accubonds and Berger 140s. in a 26" 9.9 5R RockCreek barrel. The velocities varied 2980-3020fps.

I have run up to 57 grs with 140 gr TSX. 3200+ fps. Top load. Whatever you can load with H4350, start there & work up. Less pressure than H4350 with the same charge.

I used a Lilja 1/9 twist barrel @ 27" long 52.5/R-17 gave me 2983fps and 53gr/R-17 @ 3048fps with 160gr Accubonds I'd settle on 52.5 gr. I never did try another powder/bullets my OAL is 3.100" and I'm not target shooting with the rifles is one of my deer/elk rifles. Well good luck

I have a sporter 284 with 23" barrel. Mag of SA has been lengthened to allow 3.050" OAL.

Moly coated 150 nos bt, 57 gr of RL-17 vel 3100. Actually went up to 3200 but accuracy fell off.

Also moly coated 160 accubond, 57 gr of RL-17 3070 near max in this rifle.

Both are very accurate out to 550 yds.

My current accuracy load to date is 49.7 grs of RL17 under a SIE 175 SMK.. can't tell you how fast it is going.. don't have a chrono.
