284 Shehane Ladder Test

I took the 284 Shehane out for a ladder test this am at 500 yards to see how the new crown and muzzle brake mod worked.
Here are the results of today's test using H4350

He may not have enough rounds down the barrel for it to have sped up yet... How many rounds have u fired?

I’m about 50 FPS faster than that barrel at 52 grains.. I’m 30” with 225 FB..

***Disregard... I shoot straight 284 not the shehane....***

All of mine have been 32" barrels with .225fb...and shot 52.4-52.6 at 2860-2870avg. Surely two inches more barrel doesn't make 100fps more would it?

I have between 300-400 rounds down the barrel

I'm going back out and push it up higher and see if there's another node.

I'll have say no matter what barrel I screw into this action I have to use .5-1 grain more powder to get the same velocities as others do in the same chambering.
Example I'm shooting a 300 WSM with the same action using 64.5 grains H4350 and a 210 VLD. some folks would lock up a bolt or blow primers this one shows no signs of pressure.

I've heard of slow barrels and slow lots of powder....but a slow action is certainly different...any idea as to why this is?

That's a Million dollar question. I just recently purchased another M action and I can't use same loads as this action, I'm having to back off nearly a grain powder using exact same barrel.
Only 2 differences on both actions one is trigger B&A in the new and Jewel in the old. The other is firing pin fall .240 in new and .197 in old. When Bat gets back up and running I'm getting some modified cocking pieces to try. I'll get one at .020 .030 and .040 less than a stock and see if that's it. If not I'll try a Jewel trigger

James, I was loading my Shehane with some 175 ELD X with some RL26 for deer hunting next week. so I decided to try this powder with some 180 hybrids so I loaded 8 with 55 grains just to check for velocity. I was impressed with the accuracy at 200 yards with 4 shots it shot 1/2 inch so I took it out to 500 and it shot a 1 3/4 group in bad weather snowy and some wind the ELDX were not so impressive. I think RL26 might give you more velocity. my velocity with a 180 hybrid 28 inch Brux 55 gr. Rl 26 was 2830 with the 175 I was getting over 2900 fps with 57 grains. I think I will do a real load work up with this powder with the 180s.

But I would do 52.3
That too! Just so you know.. as most surely do.. i am just poking him in the ribs just a tad.. it might not make a difference in that case.. but i would be willing to try going .00 numbers say in a .223 instead of just hanging on the tenth!

Lol yea,but it's really hard to find the kernel of powder you tired to cut in half.

I'm actually going to pick up where I left off and go up to the 54.0 grain mark and see if I can find a higher node for accuracy
