284 Shehane-How?

Planning a new build. I like the idea of 284 Shehane best.

I have a GAP built 308 on a Surgeon action that is awesome, but I found a 1000 yard range within 2 hours of me, and I want to build something that won't drift so much.

The plan is buying a new Savage action, stock, optics, etc, and a pre-chambered barrel, budget build). Problem is, I can't find anyone who chambers pre-fit barrels for a Savage for 284 Shehane.

Do I need to buy my own reamer and send it to a barrel maker?

Where can I get good standard type dies,I use a Coax, prefer Redding or Forster micrometer seaters and bushings sizers)?

Maybe my plan doesn't work in this chamber, but before I drop back and go 7-300 WSM I want to see if anyone can tell me how to make the 284 Shehane work. I really like the idea of less brass work with Lapua than WSM or SAUM, no worry of chamber obsolecence like with SAUM and if I get a little better barrel life, its all good.

Thanks,
JB

You're not going to find a pre-fit barrel for the 284 Shehane. There are probably not a lot of those reamers out there period. I think you have to get the dies from scopeusout.com .

Buying your own reamer does not sound like the beginnings of a budget build.

Good luck though, this will have less wind drift at a 1000 yds than a 308!

You'll not find prefit barrels in the cartridge, its clearly a wildcat. If you find a smith with a reamer, he can chamber and fit the barrel for you, as well as make you a set of sizing and seating dies.
