About 4-6 firings and my brass has grown here, difficult bolt close, tried max full length sizing, over setting back shoulders, like 6thou, 2 diff dies. No luck. Is there a way to fix this ? Like a small base die or using a 308 for 6br.

With Lapua brass If your reamer is .500” at the 200 then from my experience most of the shelf dies wont move brass enough at 200 after that many firings..... I have a reamer that is .501” at the 200 which seems to have fixed mine..I get enough sizing with Redding ‘s’ and a little more with the Wilson FL which is my preference.

Looks like the issue plaguing the 6.5 pro. Missmatch of brass for barrel reamer or barrel reamer for brass. Longrangeonly has a long discussion and Rushty has given a solution.

Im guessin this brass is un salvageable/work hardened, or would a proper die fix it?
The brass is fine, measure a fired case at the 200 before and after you size to see how much your moving it.. If your not budging try another die. A smith could possibly open the 200 slightly with a light sand .. But the proper fix is matching chamber to die...

You can try the small base body die, I have one and have had only marginal improvement using it on tight chambers. The 0.500 chambers are just too tight for any commercially available die that I am aware of. I have Whidden, Redding, and Forster.

I went 0.502 and have gone to 0.5015 on my last two reamers. I had no issues with the 0.502 but since the smaller one is fine too, I'm sticking with that.

@Uthink Uknow set me up with a body die that goes all the way to extractor groove for my 6mm br cases. A bit of $$ but getting one extra season from them pays for it.

All the way to the extractor groove ?
I've not seen a production die go that far down.... Idk

I'm just following the discussion, but not familiar with "200" line and datum line.
Do I have it right they are the same point on the case? And, they are 0.200 inches above the base of the case?

Also, there's another datum line where case 'headspace' is measured, yes?

Thanks!

See the light colored line above the extractor groove in the pic. Calipers will measure .200 ...only datum line I'm aware of.
Shoulder is measured from base to just above start of shoulder. In a comparison way, each tool used will give a slightly different # (imo)

Jimmy, this is the only 1 I have here at work--that rub mark goes all around the case.

A long time ago we thought tightening up the chamber would extend the life of primer pockets. Never worked out that way. Pressure is pressure and once you exceed the yield point of the brass primer pockets open up. Cases just got tight and had a big click when hitting the cam surfaces. Absolutely nothing is gained by tight bodied chambers. In a perfect world of perfect brass, perfect chambers and perfectly matched dies it can work. Doesn't help one damn bit but it can be made to work. .004"-.005" over brass diameter gives FL dies a better chance of functioning properly. If you're wrestling the bolt handle you'll never shoot as good as smoothly operating rifle. For those reamers I had ground undersize way back when it's a simple process to polish out a few thou.
Funny we see this subject covered over and over again.
