284 likes long jump?

I started my seating depth test on my new 284.I am using 180 hybreds and a .042 jump it shot bugholes I went all the way out to .055 Is this much jump common .

My 6xc shoots 105 Hybrid's with .020 to.055 jump very well in that range. Of the guys i shoot with we have found the Hybrids like to be jumped.

284s seem to like jump (On average) Most common is around .040. Now on the other hand my new one likes the bullet right at the lands. I shoot 162 AMAXs but my gunsmith just finished his and he is at .045 off with his rifle. I went out and shot this morning to do some testing with my new one and I was surprised to see that it shot 1.2" 5 shot group at 300yds with the bullet at the lands and shot the same group at .040 off. However the group at the lands was a tighter 4 shot group (.075) I had a full value wind of from 5mph to 8mph. So conditions weren't great for load testing. Are you shooting the 180 Bergers?? I do tactical shooting on steel so I can't afford to shoot the Bergers with the AMAXs selling for around $28 to 30 a box. I did try some 175MKs in my old one and they shot really well but they liked to be about .010 in so its any ones guess but what your finding is not uncommon. Guns are like women they are all different!!!!

At what distance?

Ive jumped the hybrids anywheres from .020-.062 in my 284. I found the .062 load by accident when I grabbed an old box of ammo for the practice day at the worlds to foul my barrel out. I hit the 3" spotter 8 out of 10 shots at 800 yds with that ammo. I ran back to the hotel room and figured out exactly what that load was and loaded up all my ammo at that spec for the next day. Pounded a 150-13x at 800 the next day. In my 6.5x47 Im jumping the 140 hybrids .050-.060. Vertical in the .0s at 100. Don't be afraid to jump them way out there.

The first time I tried the 180 hybrids I loaded them with .050 thou jump and was grouping 2 inches @ 550 yards with my 7 rem mag I was sold on the hybrids.

Correct Bob. I was pretty worried that they wouldn't shoot. You were spot on as it was some of the most accurate loads Ive seen. You coached me to a 199 14x at 1000 with it. ;D
