280AI with IMR 7828????

I have limited experience with a 280AI, however, my rifle has a 24" Hart barrel and a Sammi chamber. I use Nosler brass and Fed. 210M primers. I found that H-4831SC gives good accuracy and moderate velocity but the IMR-7828 gives about 125 fps. better velocity and most groups in the high 2 to mid 3's. Velocity with 140 grain Nosler BT are running 3100 fps. with IMR 7828. My lot of that powder incidentally is about 25 years old! So in my opinion and in my gun, IMR 7828 is the cats meow for the 280 ackley. Your mileage may vary.

I got 2975 fps from a 30 inch barrel with the 180 Hybrids before I started to see significant case head expansion in the extractor groove. I haven't tuned it yet but I think it will run up in the high 2900s. I used to shoot 7828SSC in my 284 Shehane and it shot very well for me in the 2900 vicinity with a 31 inch barrel and the 180 VLDs.

I just got done building my 280 AI. While I think that H4831sc is the cats meow, the builder of my rifle (Tooter Meredith) build a long 30 or 32 inch long barrel 280AI and he says 7828 is his best load. Not sure of the load. I just know he is liking 7828.
