.280AI Magazines

I'm building a .280AI repeater on a Terminus Zeus action. I'm eyeballing a Vision chassis to throw it in. Most of my shooting with probably be within 140-168gr range, but I'd also like to experiment with some high-BC heavy loads.

For you guys with a DBM .280AI, what's your COAL and what length mags are you running with 190gr bullets (Berger, Hornady A-Tip)? Trying to determine if 3.715 or CIP length 3.850 mags are the way to go.

I plan on seating them on the deeper side. I turn necks past the junction and onto the shoulder by a couple thou, so I'm not concerned about donuts.

Not exactly the info your looking for but this is what I can give you. I run 168 accubonds and 168 Berger’s. They both are just touching the lands @ just a tad over 3.5. My reamer has a .095 freebore.

Are you actually doing the build or having it built?
I ask because, from my 280AI experience, the reamer spec on freebore will have a great deal to do with the bullet choices.
EDIT
Great choice on action! I am most pleased with my Zeus.

I'll be doing the build. A buddy has a Manson reamer, and I keep forgetting to email Dave for a copy of the reamer markup, so I'm unsure of freebore right now. From experience with a Manson 6.5x47L reamer, his freebore was on the longer side from the likes of PTG and JGS. I'll have a better idea if I can even run 190s after I see a copy of the markup.

I'm glad you validated my decision on the Zeus. I went through major decision anxiety on an action. Kept going through the Zeus, Cadex, Mausingfield, Bat. I just decided to try something new.

Enjoy the build. I found with 7x64 I lost too much velocity going above 185gr but with 280 AI you’ve probably got the case capacity to keep the speed up (I went Mausingfield but hard to go wrong with any of those choices I reckon)

I’ve got a Criterion 280AI “match” chamber. I am 3.651 for a 183 SMK, 3.443 for a 180 SMK and about 3.64 for a 184 F Open. My magazines are factory Savage tops extended to 10 rounders. I can cycle COALs around 3.51ish

You will need the 3.850 mags
