280ack with RL 17

Where would one find loading data for RL-17 for a .280ack using 168gr bergers VLD? I have a good load with H4831 but it is only giving 2600fps. Is it realistic to expect 2800fps from a 280ack with 168gr bullets out of a 25 inch barrel?

try H4350 you will get speed. Start at 55 gr and work up.

My load was 58.5 gr with a Broughton 5C

Alliant's web site shows 2800+ out of a standard 280 with a 160gr BT so I would think that you can get 2800 out of the AI version. Their charge was 51+ grs so that should give you a starting point, 8 grs isn't going to be a big deal.

I played with R-17 with my 280 AI, 27" barrel. I worked up to 60 gr. with 160 AccuBonds. @ over 3000 fps. but my accuracy was at 55.5 which was around the same speed I was getting with 4350. I believe that was somewere around 2850. I am recalling thease numbers from memeroy, I do not have access to my data at the moment. Should be real close. Chris

Magpro gave me killer velocity out of my 27" shilen. Very dirty though. It gave me around 3050fps with the 168 vlds. Accuracy was good.

Viht n165 was my favorite and most accurate. I think 58.5gr gave me 2925fps. Very clean too.

Sierra #5 Lists their 168 MK Accuracy load as 54.5 grs RE-22. = 2800fps, 26" bbl. This load is 2grs under max. They don't list RE-17. MagPro listed as comparable velocity to RE-22 but requires 6 gr more powder to get there (2900 fps)
