.280 Reamer Question

I am getting ready to rebarrel my .280 Remington and am going with the same caliber. Does anyone have any advice with respect to reamer specs? I have been shooting 140 Accubonds at 3.325" which places the base of the bullet below the neck body juncture. I have the room to go longer. Is there any reason that I would not design the reamer to take that bullet seated to a length where it did not protrude below the neck/body jucture? Do you think a reamer designed with that much freebore would be a problem for the 168 Berger VLDs?

The barrel is going to be a 24" SS Bartlein Rem. Mag Sporter contour, 1:9", 5R.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

The question would be "How do you load them into the gun?"

If you are limited by mag length be it internal or DBM you may want a reamer that allows you to be close to an ideal distance from the lands and still fit in the mag. If you single load make it any way you want to. I think the typical F class rifle is usually throated to get the base of the bullet up to or above the juncture.

As long as I don't go past 3.660", I can load them from the magazine. ;)

I think my 280 ai reamer has a .188" fb. With the 180 vld the bearing surface is still well ahead of the junction, around .070" or so. But the 168 vlds still have plenty of grip. Gotta love those long necks. In my long action 700 i still have around .100" left in the magazine.

Pretty sure my reamer was ground for the old style 162 A Maxs.

My oal is 3.547" with .010" jam.
