270wsm 140gr. and RL-17

Don't know why I posted this in the big stuff forum. Probably why I haven't had any replies....Dah! ::) So I have copied the post and posted here, where it should have been in the first place.

Anyone have a starting load for the 140gr bullet's with RL-17? I would like to try this powder with the 140s. I have found some data on the 130s but would like to try it with the 140s? Any Idea what would be a good starting load with the 140s?
Thanks!!

If you go to Alliant site they don't have any data for a 140gr bullets but they list max of 60gr for 150 bullet and 62gr max for 130 bullet. I started at 57gr and worked up to 61gr with 140gr bullets in my 270WSM I settle on
59.5gr/R-17 with 150gr bullet @ 3071fps.

61gr with 140gr bullet shot real good in my rifle and I didn't chronograph those loads I just wanted something alittle heavy on an elk/deer hunt last year.

Good powder I'm going to try it in a 300WSM. Well good luck

I love Re#17 but not pushing a 140 gr bullet in the 270 WSM. Its better for the 110. I can push a 140 3300 with 74grs Mag pro and get adequate big game accuracy . Re#25 72grs pushes about 3200 with a better accuracy. Work up to my loads they are MAX in my rifle.

Reloader 25 and Mag Pro are two excellent powders for the .270 WSM. Great accuracy and velocity with both powders, with either 130 or 140 grainers.

Kendoka66,
I will keep both of those powders in mind. I am curretly taking a break from my reloading bench and reading a little on the site. I am loading up some rounds for testing tomorrow. I went with the info that oldroper posted. Added my own little twist to it with the RE-17. The 140 and 130s have shot ok with H4831sc and I was able to get buy with it for the past deer season. Longest shot avaliable was 175yrds. I have acquired a new lease this year and I'll have a 400yrd shot option. So I'm trying to find something that will hold at least 1 moa out to that distance. If I don't I just want take the shot. I do have another option with my .308 it is shooting at .5 moa at 400 yards, but that is with a berger match bullet and not a hunting bullet. The 270wsm is a lot flatter so if I can get it to shoot at 400 I want to use it instead.
Thanks to all that replied!
