Am an old guy who is gearing up for next year's elk hunt. Ended up with a NIB Win Model 70 Featherweight with the slightly heavier Sporter model 24" barrel. Not sure why/how the factory made it, but was very pleased to find rather than the 22" pencil-barreled Featherweight or heavier Sporter models. Been ~25yr since I've hunted elk, but have been very pleased with the Hornady 139gr Superperformance ammo in my 700 CDL 7mm-08 for our eastern bean-field deer.
Am wondering if anyone has shot any of the .270 Win 145gr ELD-X Precision Hunter ammo and what you think of it? I do load for competition (F-T/R & silhouette), but prefer to purchase ammo for hunting, as I don't need another caliber/rifle to develop loads for (3 is enough). Will likely purchase a box of the ELD-X and hold a shoot-off between it and the 140gr Nosler Accubond and Federal 150gr Partition Vital Shock to see what my rifle likes.
