270 weatherby reloading info

Not exactly right forum being a target geared place but I've had really good luck with you guys on my 7rem and 284win. Im building a new 6.5-284 full custom and have already used this site to nail down what I'm doing as well. Anyways, My brother wants to try to work up a load for is 270 wby and i'm a little stuck on where to start with powders and primers for best results. We shoot br2 and 4831 and cci mag and h1000 on the rifles we have with excellent results for our standards.

Would you guys have some recommendations on powder/primer choice for the 270 weatherly.

We are gonna shoot the 150VLD exclusively.

I see people running Imr 7828 more often than none just skimming online.

thanks in advance

Try some of your H1000 stash in it, too. Bet it'll work just fine, too.

I have tested H1000, Retumbo, RE22 and RE25 with 140 and 150gr pills.
RE25 gave the highest velocities with the least pressure with both weights.
It also was very accurate, but not quite as accurate as either H1000 or Retumbo.
I want to try H870 or 50BMG, it's hard to source here, unfortunately.
If you try H1000, a good mildly compressed load seems to work best due to the freebore. My rifle, a switch barreled Model 70 EW, has the 3/8"/.375" freebore length.
I have used both WLRM and FED215, either does the job and one or the other always shows a preference with a certain powder over the other accuracy wise.

Cheers.
:)

H-870 has been discontinued for some time now (unless you can find pull-down).

Try www.gibrass.com for WC870. They usually have some on hand.

I've shot the Berger 140g/150gr VLD in my 270Wby but settle on 150gr ABLR using IMR-7828ssc with Fed 215/Norma brass. I'm not trying to push another bullet just happen it like something else. I'm hoping to try Berger 170gr and live hunt Co.
