270 WCF & 130 Ballistic tips

Keep going up with caution. My 270 shot it’s best at 60.0 grains of H4831sc or RL22 for velocities of +- 3030 fps. I was shooting the 130 grain ballistic tips & 130 grain Sierra.

Velocity was lacking with the 57.0 load just barely made 2800. Loading 58.5 now, will stop when I hit 3k with decent accuracy.
Well double edged sword here, got my 3000 fps velocity but 3 shot group size went from 3/4" up to 1.5".

Now this is a lightweight petite rifle, and somewhat difficult to shoot accurately, so I'm on the fence which load to hunt with. Speed is nice & less drop.... but I'm really doubtful an antelope will notice that extra 200 fps

Been thinking about this. Going to re-shoot in a few days. If the faster ones are still printing bigger groups will drop back to the 57 grain loads.

Quit chasing velocity and go with the accuracy!!
Been there, done that!!

Get your accuracy and then worry about doing a dope sheet.

I'm using the 140gr NBT over a mid 50gr charge of Norma MRP (supposed to be equivalent to RL22).

Watch thoroughly cleaning the copper from a hunting rifle.
My Ruger 77s take almost 50 rounds to get to shoot right afterwards.
I only clean the carbon out now.

This rifle was new to me, the previous owner was quite elderly & and due to the condition of the bore I seriously doubt he'd ever removed the copper wash. A proven accurate load in my main 270 didn't shoot well in this one, that got me thinking I need to take this bore to bare metal

Figured I'd start with a nice fresh bore and go from there, still have a few weeks till Antelope season starts on Oct 11. This rifle will be my back up 270. Also going to take a fast twist 22-250 if I feel like it might give that one a go as well

Going to re-shoot the 57 & 58.5 grain loads today & see where I'm at
