270 ELD-X 145gr

Does anyone have measurements on this one? Or put any downrange with what twist barrel. I would like to run it through Bergers twist calculator, see where it lands.

It amazes me with all the 270's that have been produced in the last 50 years, that there is such little discussion here and other forums by those who handload and continually strive for better accuracy and terminal performance. It may not be the best or most efficient round out there, but it certainly holds its own between the 6.5 and 7mm cartridges of today. I'm not lecturing, my only 270 was kidnapped by daughter for her own and I never replaced it, so I am just as guilty as anyone else who has tended to ignore it these days. Still I am looking for better loads for my daughter and would also appreciate any feedback (and recipes) from anyone shooting the ELD-X.

The 270 has always been a popular hunting cartridge but never made it in long range precision shooting or competitive circles due to lack of good bullets. Lack of good bullets was because it's lack of good ballistic numbers as a bullet compared to the 6.5s or 7s and heaviest 30s. I own a Browning BAR in 270 and love it for a walking whitetail gun. Berger makes decent match bullets but by comparison are inferior to the ballistics of the 6.5s or 7s with equal recoil. These are my opinions on the 270. Doesn't seem any of the 06 based cartridges are very popular in that area. All great as hunting cartridges tho.

The overall length is missing from the JBM bullet database. I would estimate that 9 twist is safe. 9.5 probaby ok, and 10 a bit of a question. You need the overall length which I am guessing is around 1.36" or so. The G7 BC is .270 which is not that great. The Berger 140 grain Classic Hunter has a G7 BC of 0.271, and rated at 1:10 by Berger.

Yes the Berger hunter was done right, made for all the 1:10 twist barrels. My neighbor just pointed me at a nice, high bc Nosler 150 also. As always, will the average barrel put enough spin on it. I just picked up a clean used gun for the action and got to pondering how it might do as is with these newer high bc designs out. Thanks for the input guys.

If your looking for real BC numbers, stick with Berger or Hornady. Nosler numbers are not what they appear in their advertisements.
