265gr Hornady Interlock in .44 mag lever action rifle.

Hi folks,

Managed to pick up some 44 cal 265gr Hornady Interlocks which I will load of H110 and Viht N110.

Anyone got any experience with either combo?

Should get decent some speed as out of a 20" barrelled lever action.

Thanks in advance,

Scrummy

I have loaded 300 gr and 240 gr XTP with H110, but I haven't loaded the 265 grain Interlocked yet, but I plan to. My friend has shot deer with the 240 gr and reports that it sheds the jacket. He switched to the 265 gr and says it makes a nice hole clean thru them. Hornady data predicts about 1700 ft/s from a 20" bbl with the 265 gr, but Hodgdon data seems to predict higher velocities (although they don't list H110 with a 265 gr). My experience is that Hodgdon is closer to the velocities that I get. I would expect 1700 to 1800 ft/s, probably closer to 1800, maybe even a little more.

If I remember right, the 265 was designed with the 444 Marlin in mind. Should live speed.

Scrummy,

My experience matches that of GFlory. The VV powder was cleaner and faster, worked well with WLPs. Faster was better with my semi-auto.

I used that bullet with full load H110. In Ruger super Blackhawk 7.5 inch barrel couldn’t get enough velocity to expand on deer. Do not remember what the velocity was. It was designed for 444 Marlin. Might work in a carbine length barrel.

I do find VV N110 easier to ignite than H110.

I have some Nosler 240gr JSPs that don't group badly but I do wonder what will happen on deer at 20" barrel speeds.

I wondered about the Hornady XTP and the Sierra JHC but wonder what will happen with that speed and those big hollow points if you hit a shoulder on a decent sized deer.

I do wonder about the 20" of barrel.

The Hornady app gives the 265gr Interlock having a muzzle velocity range of 1500-2200 so if I can get up to ~1800 fps as GRT indicates, I'm hoping they will work.
