Shooting when I can
Silver $$ Contributor
Hey guys, looking for some real world velocity expectations for a 18 inch barrel in a 260 Remington shooting the 100 to 123 grain bullets.

If you got any load data, I would love to see it.

I use 4064 behind 100 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips in my 260. Barrel length is 20”, and velocity is right at 3000 fps. For years I’ve been using R17 behind the 120 gr Nosler BTs, with velocity about 2800. For killing deer and hogs, the different bullet weights seem to be equally effective. I don’t seek max velocity, but prefer max accuracy.

i am looking to use the new 100gr ELD in my short tactical rifle, if you can get 3000 fps that would be great I am thinking I can make 2950.

Looking at Vhits load data 18.75"barrel
100gr scenars will get up to 3050fps with N540, N140 & N150 2966fps.

so i re-stumbled accross the old OCW load data website, saw they had a load page and I was able to find some 140gr RDF stashed away my storage unit, so I guess I am good to go gonna run that setup and call it a day and use up some old powder in the short barrel

260 Remington using IMR 4064 or Varget
140 grain bullet, 38.0 grains

Expect low to mid 2600fps

thats fine its a easy button i don't have much time before the match so ill see what I can do

I’ll be using a suppressor and can you explain noisey
4831 would be suitable for heavy bullets and a longer barrel. Using it with a short barrel and a suppressor will likely leave unburned powder in the can, which may ignite. H4350 or Staball 6.5 are you best choices for bullets in the 140g class. 4064 or Varget would be OK for the light bullets and works well in my Creedmoor with 123g.

That was a concern, but I thought to ask complete burn barrel length for H4831SC

No idea. I'm sure one of our more academic members will chip in with some data LFAD or Gordon's load data calculators. Me, I just fill it up and jam a bullet in it.

It looks like it will be a nice calm day (5 am here) Off to shoot 800 yds with the 6BRX.
