260AI?

Anybody care to share their experiences with this cartridge?

It's come up in my radar recently & there's not much out there from what searching I've done.

Any / all info welcome.

i do not know about those 28-32 inch bbl shooters howerver as a 24" bbl it is a waste of time.

i tried one with all the tricks 700 trued, hart bbl, custom stk, bedded, etc, never was worth the trouble, dang near wore out me mind on reload experience and never never did it produce worth a c

7-08 ai if replaced it with was far far better.

260 AI is probably as good as you can make a 6.5 you can get almost the same velocity as 6.5 284 with a 30'' barrel with 10 gr less powder. I found RL 22 H4831 SC H4350 and Norma MRP were some of the best with 140 gr. It is easy to make not hard on brass until you lean on it . I will go back in my books and post some loads. Good shooting Larry

You also may want to compare it to the new 6.5 SLR as shown on the 6mmar.com website. The design of that cartridge seems to have a lot of improvements to me over the 260's. The long neck and 30 degree shoulder are definite improvements IMHO.
Best Wishes

Mr. Clark, i just shot my 260AI, 1/2"x1/2"@200 yards
RPA quadlite,Brux 30"1:8.5
45gn h4350
F210M
CR146 0.005" jump
avg 2856fps es 7 sd 3

Sounds great! Why 1:8.5 & not 1:8?

(If CR stands for Clinch River then I can see why their 146 grain solid wouldn't work in a 1:8.)

Do you have a print of the reamer used? Who did the barrel-work?

yes Clinch River, i shot these in my 6.5x55 swede two years ago which had 1:8
i took the advice from Greg (CR)
just shot another 1/2"verticalx1/4"horizontal three shot group @200
this time with 43.0 grains of H4350 which gave me 2758fps
i have the reamers, work was done by Dave Tooley

I have one and love it. My match load is 42gr H4350. 140 Hybrid. 2.895COAL. This gives me 2780 out of a 28inch barrel. I also have used 4831SC with excellent results but it seems harder to find. I have ran it up to the 2900's with no signs of pressure with excellent accuracy. Seems to fit the bill of a 6.5x284 using less powder and COAL.

I'm looking to get one done up, i have a barrel and dies on the way, looking to shoot the precision ballistics 142 grains can't wait

Stephen

I'm happy with my 260 Rem, in fact, I am just about to get another one. My 260 Rem has gone well this summer, with one win and some good shoots out to 580 yds. I can't justify the additional spend on a reamer and custom dies for an 'improved' 260 Rem. I'm just wrapping up using my 243 Ackley and it looks like I will have a set of dies that no one wants that will gather dust in the cupboard for years to come.

Regards

JCS

Norma MRP I found to be the best powder. Depending on brass H 20 capacity. 47. to 48 gr of MRP gave me 2910 fps with 30'' barrel 140 26409 Burger vld Ouick load says 51849 psi
RL 22 was close second Hodgdon shot good but always was slow with hi pressures . I feel the
260 AI is as good as you can get .I know for a fact the 260 AI has won more of our 1000Yd shoots then any other. Good Shooting Larry
