260 with berger 140 hybrids feedback

I have some of these berger 140s hybrids inbound.

Curious to know what others have gotten velocity wise with these in a regular 260, specifically with IMR 4451 or RL-16. H4350 results are nice too but H4350 has been near impossible to find.

Please give us more info on your rifle and purpose so that the right people (hunter, varmint, tactical, sling, etc...) can give you relevant feedback. I have a 260AI, but I'm shooting it out of a F-Class rifle with a 30" barrel and any info I gave you would be a waste of time, if your goal is tactical.

I don't compete but F class style is the closest to what I do. The rifle in question is a Savage with a 30" Mcgowen. In a few weeks I will be participating in a milk jug shoot, at distances of 1000yds, 1200yds, 1500yds and 1 mile.

I have a good load that holds half a minute with Hornady 147gr elds @ 2800 fps but I am out of those and can't find them in stock anywhere.

I started working with the nosler 140 rdfs, but the velocities are lower than I would like (2800 fps) and the groups at 100 yards are unimpressive.

Since the RDFs are not working out and I can't find the hornady 147s, I ordered 300 berger 140 hybrids and basically have two weekends to find a load.

I use a 30 inch McGowan on my 260 f-class rifle. My load is 42.5 h4350 in lapis cases with br-2 primers. I am getting 2875 with 140 hybrid

If you really want to stick with IMR4451 and RL16, I have nothing to offer. I had the same problem finding H4350 and tried H4831sc and found it to be an outstanding powder for my 260AI.

I use IMR 4350 when I can't get H4350 in my 260. Accuracy is good. Run's a little faster but that could be lot differences.

Well I can now answer my own question now :)

260
Lapua Brass
IMR 4451
Berger 140gr hybrids
20 thou from the lands

5 shot average velocity (fps):

42.4 2866
42.6 2908
42.8 2895
43.0 2937
43.2 2938

For comparison sake:

Nosler 140gr rdf with imr 4451:

42.8 2856

Nosler 140gr rdf with rl-16:

42.0 2854

I had done more extensive development with the RDFs previously, I just had a few loads left over that I ran today through the chronograph.

The groups with the bergers were overall tighter than the nosler rdfs and really they should be considering how much extra they cost. 42.8 and 43 were under .5 moa. 43.2 was just under 1 moa, but the vertical spread was .25 moa. 43.2 also had the tightest extreme spread and sd (both under 10).

Hodgdon lists the max load of imr 4451 with a 142gr smk at 41.5 for what its worth. I'm sure these are hot loads. Primers looked good, no stuff bolt list. Temp at the range was 87f.

Dont know if this will help or not. Shooting hunting VLD 140 gr. Rl 26 50 gr, cant get enough in case to over pressure. 26" criations 260 AI, velocity is 2890, sd of 8 i think going off memory RL 17 doed well but not as well accuracy wise dont have noted with me, but velocity was 2870. H4350 shoot like shootgun dont remember velocity but about give up on bullet it was so bad. Like daod don't know if this will help but its more info on not the bullet you want, i just wonder hpw much different they shoot, oh loadinc 2.87 bullet hits 2.93, started as long as would go in mag, repeater, here is where groups started closing up, 1/4-3/8 five shoot

2836fps avg. - Straight. 260, Lapua brass, Berger 140 hybrids, Tula LRP, 42.9g H4350 26" 1-8 barrel, Savage Target Action.

I been trying the 140 Hybrids in my Savage with a Shilen tube using IMR4451 and results are terrible. Hodgdon's site says 39 is max for the 140 grain and 41.5 for 142's using 4451. Groups are 1 1/2 inch's at 100yds.
