.260 w/ 140gr VLD @ 2.8" OAL?

Having a Rig put together on a Stiller Predator short action with the Wyatt box and am really leaning toward a .260. But before I jump in, I want to make sure that a .260 with a 140gr VLD loaded to a 2.8" OAL will still have the ogive above the case mouth. I want to be able to run them through the magazine and still reach the lands, and even chase the lands as the throat wears for a little bit.

Another concern is that if I have my rig throated as described, would the throat be too short to work satisfactorily with more conventional bullets?

If you have not already purchased the short action, just buy a long action, problem is solved. The VLD is a long bullet and even if it can be seated thhat length, you will lose case capacity due to the bullet.

Not interested in a long action. If I wanted to go that route, I'd run a 6.5-06 or AI version of the same.

So, anyone out there interested in seating a VLD to 2.8" OAL and letting me know if the ogive is below the case mouth?

I'll assemble a round at lunch, to check it out for you. You might
want to check out 6.5 CM. It's O.A.L. with a 140 should be a better fit in a short action.

So the ogive is outside the case neck.... but the base of the bullet in .230-.250
below the shoulder. It really eats up case capacity.

For what you're wanting it seems the 6.5 Creedmoor's a better fit - it was designed with magazine feeding in mind.

built something almost identical to the 6.5 superLR by running a 6.5x47 reamer in long. i have since rechambered the barrel to .260AI. BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER MADE!

Chuck, how'd you get along with it before the switch?

Don't have to worry about seating depth with a 140 VLD in a 6.5x47. Easily hit over 2900 fps in either my 26" Krieger or Broughton with Rel 17.
