260 Remington Imp. loads redux

I just got back from the range testing some loads with my 260 Remington Imp. I started with 41.5 gr. of H4350 shooting 130 gr. Swift Sciroccos. I worked up in 0.4 gr. increments and only made it up to 43.5 gr. before the bolt got stiff with some slight ejector marks. 42.3 gr. was the only load that showed any promise. Tomorrow I'll try some H4831SC to complete fireforming and to see if something turns up.

The biggest question that I have right now is, where do I go from here. That is, now that I've got some fireformed brass, how do I need to adjust from that 42.3 gr. load? Do I increase the load a touch to account for the greater case capacity? The group I shot with this load was just under 1/2 inch. It's not bad for a skinny #3 Krieger, but it's almost all vertical, so it seems like I ought to be able to tighten it up some.

Supposedly, these Sciroccos like to be back from the lands. Right now, I'm right at the lands. If I start to back away, do I need to increase the charge?

BTW, I'm using necked up Lapua .243 brass and CCI BR-2 primers.

Sorry for all the questions. I leave a week from today and the previous barrel on this gun--a .243 Win.--turned up lame, unpleasant and, as yet, unfinished story behind that one) and the only suitable thing I had on hand was a 6.5 barrel. So, I'm well behind the curve on this one.

Thanks for the help,

robert
