260 Rem

I am new to the forum and I see that there is a wealth of knowledge on here, so I am going to ask this question and I hope you guys have not beat this topic to death. I just recently purchased a Remington Model 7 in a 260. I am also just starting to reload and I will be reloading for this rifle. After what I have read about Reloader 17, I am thinking about starting with this powder. I would be greatful if I could get some advice on where to start (bullets, powder, loads and just any info). My barrell is 20" with a 1 in 9" twist. This rifle will be used for hunting but still would like it to shoot as good as it will. I am hoping it will shoot out of the box, but am prepared to float the barrell and glass the action, any sugestions on this would be great also.
Thanks in advance
David

David,
Welcome to the forum!
I dont have a factory 260 but I have had several custom rifles chambered in 260. I love those little model 7 rifles, I actually bid on one at Gunbroker recently but lost at the last minute(it wasnt you who outbid me was it? ;)
I used 39.6 grains Rel 17 with 140 Hornady Amax bullets and CCI BR primers and shot some very small groups. Good luck.

I have tried RL 17 on my 6.5 X250 ack which is about the same capacity as the 260 Rem with less than great results . I have also loaded for the 260 with RL19 and H414 with very good results . All have been loaded with Nosler 120 gr Balistic tips . Loads you can find in Nosler 5th edition produced excellent accuracy as well as great knock down power . T R

I don't have any hunting rifles in 260 only target rifles. One of the first things I would do is have the trigger worked over by your gunsmith. I have a friend who has a 260 in a Mauser action with a 1/9 barrel. He swares by 120 gr bullets for deer and hogs.

My rifle has the new X-Mark trigger on it, it is set at 3.5# from the factory, but I have never felt a trigger out of the box like this. I am going to shoot it first before I have the trigger done.

welcome friend....i have a rem 260 model 700 heavy barrel and the load i use is 40 grains RL15 and 120 grain nosler ballistic tips, this has really turned out to be an exremely accurate load with my best groups around .380 at 100 yrds...want to try some Bergers out but scared to fix something that aint really broken...ya know!?
