260 Rem Load

Has any one out there got a load with 3000 f.p.s. I use the 130 grain Berger an My new chronograph will be here this week. I guess start with a 1/2 grain at a time to see if I can get there. What I would like to know also what powders to start with. I Have a cabinet full of powder even the Reloader 17 that just came bak. Gonna watch the primer face and powder burns and most of all splits in case. Would appreciate a load that is already there if one of you have one. OOps I almost forgot It's a 260 Rem just back from being completly acurized , barrel to butt. Thanks a bunch

I use h4350 and you cant go wrong with it.Just follow a recipe off hodgdens site and work up slowly till you get pressure signs and good accuracy and then back off a couple tenths or so as to not overstress the rifle and brass.

I have tested 120gr quite extensively and RL19 is most accurate. I always use Nosler Reloading Manual and from pass experience, when they indicate that a certain load combination is accurate, they are not kidding. It also indicate that RL19 the most accurate powder for 140gr pills out of 260 Rem. I intend to test it in the near future.

I am working some loads up for 142smks with H4831sc and should have chrono data this weekend. A question, what is your setup? Barrel, twist and length? Just curious. I shoot 260 also and with factory rem 140 core lokt that has a avg vel 2750fps according to remington shoots from my barrel with a avg vel of 2835fps. Quite a increase if ya ask me, not to bad for a factory load. I cant wait to see what comes of my testing this weekend with the 142 smks and H4831sc. I wouldnt mind sharing my findings with another 260 shooter in exchange for there findings.

I have played with the 260 Rem a lot. I don't think you can get 3000 fps without a 30" barrel or running insane pressures. R17 will give you the highest velocities but if you have a standard 24" or shorter barrel, 2900 will be close to top. I have a 22" barrel and can't get 2800 out of mine. I used to shoot a lot of 130 Norma bullets but I switched to 108 Lapuas now.

There's nothing "magic" about 3000 fps. A go-to load in that chambering is H4350 and the Scenar 123. You should be able to get close to 2950 with a 26" barrel. With the 130s you can try RL17, but you may have to experiment with primers to match the consistency and low ES of H4350.

With Reloder 17 you have to watch pressure signs carefully and check your ES/SD as it doesn't behave like other powders as you near max. It's tempting to go with a superfast RL17 load... but you have to send enough rounds downrange to know that you've got a consistent load as well.

I would work up in 0.3 grain increments after starter loads. 0.5 are pretty big jumps.

For 142smk with H4831sc:
45.3grns, from .010-.020 off the lands, Lapua brass and you'll shoot bug holes at 100yds and about 1.7-1.9" 10 shot groups at 300yds.

I have tested this load in two different barrels with equal results.

If you wan a more accurate load, with 130grns bergers, let me know. ;D
