260 Rem and Reloader 17

I was wondering what kind of velocities people were getting with Reloader 17 in the 260 Remington.

Truth. In my 260, I get about the same velocities with RL-17 and H4350, ~2830fps with 140gr bullets, ~2975 with 130gr bullets. The big difference is that H4350 is a lot more accurate for me (~0.6moa accuracy with RL-17 at best, after a lot of tuning, ~0.3moa with H4350, after load development session). My 260 is a Savage with an off the rack 28" McGowen drop-in barrel, nothing special. Another gentleman at my range also shoots a 260 in F-Class and uses H4831SC with very good results, but with that powder you have to really cram it in and use a compressed load to get similar velocities.

I use two powders for .260Rem w/142SMK.

VV 150, for my slower 600 yard matches running 2720. Really like this powder for consistancy and cleaness.

H4831SC for 1000 at 2850. I have no problem getting enough powder it the case, if fact, when first working up a load, I got enough powder in to get 3000+ fps. But, got pressures signs, and not wanting to be a 6.5-284, I backed off. Got my smallest SDs and groups at 2850.

unless you have a very driving desire to use rl-17, leave it in the store!

If you like the reloaded powders I have used rl 22 with great success under a 140 amax 2780 fps very tight groups

Sorry to veer off course but I have a question regarding my 260 and I'm hoping u gents could help,I too am trying rl17 behind 123smk in a factory 26" 1-10tw,am I wasting my time with the 123gr pill in a 1-10tw?

I'm using Reloader-19 with very good results, 30in Kreiger no problem reaching 2830ft/s.

I shoot RL19 with a CCI BR2 primer. I get almost 3200 with 120 ballistic tips, 1:8 twist, 26" tube.

How much R19 are you guys using? and what is the most R19 in a 260 recomended?
