.260 Rem AI 40 Degree Dies

Coolhand said:
Gentleman , I would appreciate your recommendations for dies for the .260 Rem AI .

Mike.

I have the Redding Type S Match (bushing die set)with the Competition seater.. Works very well for me..

in my opinion if you have a custom gun you are just better off sending a few fired cases to a die maker like neil jones or whidden or any of the other custom die makers. for 200 bucks you get a correct die instead of spending 100+ on a die that may or may not be correct. unless this is just a plinker or hunting gun.

JoeJo, all my dies are "run of the mill / off the shelf" Redding, Forster or Whidden. I use them in my F-Open rifles. T-Rust me, these rifles are fully capable of extreme accuracy. A portion of that accuracy comes from these dies. Do I think that a custom set may get you MORE accuracy>>>possibly, maybe even "probably">>>but to what degree? I don't know>>>but it can't be much.

I agree with you, however I have had just a bit too much trouble at times with run out issues or over/undersizing that I just started to buy custom dies for my competition rigs. not my hunting plinking guns just competition stuff. you figure you can spend 3-7 k on a competition rig after you put some glass on it so whats another 100 bucks over the cost of off the shelf dies.

Appreciate the replies Gents , I have at the moment a standard .260 Rem , and am considering the AI conversion.
At present I am using Redding standard .260 Rem dies and with 85 Grain Sierra HP's and 40 grains of Varget , the rifle is putting 5 shots into the .4-.5 range @ 100. One 200 yard group measured just under 1.5".

Still weighing up the pros & cons of the conversion.

Mike. I've considered this move a lot, but have decided not to bother. I'm on my 6th 260 Rem barrel. Regards JCS
