Hi guys, can anyone confirm or put their two cents in if this is an mis print?? (See pic)

The pic shows Hodgdon data for H4350 and a 142
Max charge as 44.5 grains

Sierra lists 40.6 grains max charge with about the same velocity.

I worked up to 44.5 in my rifle and it was at 2805 from a 22” barrel. It seems odd to me it would be that far apart.

Anybody have a load with a 142 SMK with H4350 they’d care to share?

I've had huge disparity between Hodgdon and Sierra in other cartridges, like Hodgdons starting data was higher than Sierra max load. In standard 260 42ish gr of H4350 is pretty common accuracy load.

Good to know.

I was at 41.6 of IMR4350 and 43.2 for two different working loads.

It seems my 43.2 grains has slowed down slightly in my rifle so I tried H4350 and the speed was way more than needed.

I’m going to go back down and rework.

People talk about lot variations. Years ago i used a 260 and Hodgdon listed 44.5 of H4350 for a 140. Then after several years, they dropped it to 43.0. I then dropped my load and it was more accurate. Apparently they’ve raised it back up for current lots.

Ten years ago I shot two seperate 260s in local 600yd matches. Didnt shoot the Sierra 142s but did shoot 139 Scenars and 140 Hybrids. The Savage action showed pressure signs when I got over 43.5gr of H4350. The Remington 700 action showed pressure just over 43 grns. Both rifles shot exceptionally well with 40.7gr of the same lot was where I settled for the best accuracy.

My best load is 43.5gr with a velocity of 2930fps out of a 30" krieger. No case head expansion and single digit sd. Use Lapua, fed 210m.

I run a 22" 1-8 Brux Kevin Rayville Savage with RP 7-08 brass in my 260. .0125 necks, 43.5gr H4350, Rem9½, & Sierra 142's @ 2820' & .25-.50Moa @ 600. This rifle digests everything at ½moa or better that I've run thru it tho.

That load shot in mine but I feel like it was on the warm side.

Maybe I should revisit it.

My go-to is QuickLoad. The ability to predict pressure based on case volume and other factors is invaluable. At the same time, feedback from this site has saved me a substantial amount of green by helping to select the more promising candidates. I'm awaiting delivery on a 28" Brux to dive into my 260.

The standard accurate load for 260rem as proven across dozens of guns and barrels is 44gr H4831 under a 130-140gr bullet. Not the hottest/fastest, may end up a few 10ths up or down, but its safe and has always been very accurate.

For interested parties I went back and worked through a few more loads.

42.0 grains of H4350 gave me 2715 average (22” barrel) and a solid agg of groups. This a factory Remington 5r barrel and it’s shown some impressive accuracy over its life.

COAL is 2.835 with the 142 SMK
