260 load with RL17

I've heard good stuff about RL17 in the 260 and picked some up yesterday. I have 123 SMKs, 139 Scenars, 140 A-Max, and 142 SMKs. Can anyone save me some time by suggesting a good combination or combinations to try? 22" 1:8.5 twist.

I tried to search this, but failed. Sorry. Thanks!

I have found that everything I have tried RL 17 in It seem to give better performance/speed with heaver bullets in the particular cal, its loaded in. So I would start with your heaviest bullets first, sorry but I have no experience with the 260 Rem.
I have been running RL 17 in my 257-weatherby magnum with 100gr bullets, and this power has produced some truly awesome speeds over my chronograph. Speeds that I never seen before using H4831 H-1000 H4350.
so good luck someone should chime in shortly on the 260 rem.

My load was 42.5gr of RL-17 driving a Berger 140gr HPBT-LR. I found that RL-17 likes a lot of jump. I initially started at 0.020" jump, it shot ok. I then worked to 0.015" jam, and it shot a little better. Upon the suggestion of my local smith, I went the other way, and found that it shot lights out with 0.070" jump. Out of a 28" barrel I got about 2835fps.

Same experience with my 6.5x47 Lapua shooting 130gr Bergers... 41.5gr or RL-17 and jumped 0.050" was as accurate as any load I worked up with H4350 with the bonus of about 80fps faster, about 2870fps out of a 22" barrel.

Yeah, I haven't found a single thing to work well with the 123s. And unfortunately, I have a lot of them...

I sighted in with 42 gr rl-17 and 123smk and put 5 in about 3/4" and I am no benchrest shooter.

I tried RL17 in my 260(1-8 Kreiger) and it shot 5 shot groups in the .3s and .4s at 3000+fps with 123 Lapuas and Winchester 7mm-08 brass. I don't have the exact load but can look it up at home.

I just never went to it because I like the H4350 because its an extreme powder and shoots as well in my rifle just not quite as fast.

Charlie Papa, I will check the RL 17 load tonight if my pea brain can remember that far ahead!! My H4350 load is 43.5grs with the 123 Lapua using Lapua brass with a Federal primer.

I have cronographed this load seveal times and get extremely low SD and ES with it. Out of my 23" barrel I get 2980 to 2995fps depending on the day and or cronograph. I have shot this load to a 1000yds with excellent results. It shoot well in my sons 260 and my son in laws 260.

If I recall I think its the load that the moderator of this sight was telling us about. I tried it and its worked great for me. Another load that really worked well in my other 260s with the 140s was 37.5 to 38grs of Varget. I rebarreled a 260 that liked 40.5grs of Varget with the 123s and this load was 3000fps to a tad over out of a 25" barrel.

Charlie Papa,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. The load was 44 and 44.5grs of RL17 with a Winchester 7mm-08 case necked down to 260 a 123 Lapua and a Federal primer. One load was in the .3s and the other was in .4s for 5 shot groups. Hope this helps.
