ducks-and-bucks

Heres what I have:

Defiance machine Deviant action with seekins cut bottom
Defiance machine bottom metal for detachable accuracy international mag
Manners T2A stock
Jewell trigger
Brux 28 inch heavy varmint 1:8 twist
American Rifle Company one piece scope ring mount
Muscle break muzzle break
Lapua brass
Redding competion dies

Plan is to run 140 gr berger vld target bullets...

Question/s are: im thinking about ordering a reamer to have it on hand for rebarreling... so if I end up needing to order a reamer thats no biggy...

260 Rem or 260 AI??? I dont need the extra velocity, 75-100 fps extra velocity means nothing to me... I am looking for precision/accuracy only. On the other hand if I do a regular 260 rem... what about a slightly longer throat to seat the bullet a little longer?

Would a slightly longer throat help these berger 140 vlds perform a tad more?

Gimme your suggestions here please. All input and or experiances is appreciated!

A longer throat does no good when you are mag fed. You will always be limited by mag length. Call Dave Kiff and order his 260 tactical match reamer. He designed for this purpose. The Alpha type II mags will give you a little added length but not much.

2 things, my 260ai tac gun, I run the alpha mags, after continued use not as good as the AI. If you have the front spacer plate removed from the front of the AI mag they will be same length as the alpha.

with the alpha mag, and the 260ai round, it is a struggle to fit the 10th round in, and it spreads the mag a bit so it is hard to fit in the bottom metal with 10 rounds.

either way I would go with the AI mags, and remove the spacer. for general use with 9 rounds the alphas would be fine but since I shoot PRS matches there is something riding on performance and 5 seconds wasted on a stage is lost points.

Not sure if you want to have bullets seated right at the lands in a tactical match. There is a good chance you could pull a bullet out of a case and fill your action with powder. I shoot a 6.5 Creedmoor with 140gr Berger VLD, they shoot at or below .5MOA with a .020 jump in my rifle.

Just a thought on the stock. Think of going with a heavy fill in the butt to help offset the weight of the barrel. I just put my 260 barrelled action with a 24" #18 Kreiger Light varmint in a McMillan A1-3. Its very muzzle heavy.

For what its worth its a 9 twist and will stabilize 130 Berger target bullets.

Give Ray Bowman a call at Precision Rifle and Tool. He has a lot of experience with the 260. Maybe he can help you out with you throat length/load questions.
