.260 Bobcat

Does anyone have any information on this loading? I could not find the Outdoor Life article that Jim Carmichael wrote. I was wondering what type of velociities the 120 and 140 grain bullets were exhibiting. I have a 6/250 and have been very happy. I was curious how the next step up would be to the 6.5/250. Any info would be appreciated.

Its been years since I read the article but wasn't the Bobcat actually the "260". I thought he necked up the 243 case to the 6.5 and called it the 260 Bobcat. I could be wrong as I remember the article was on two different wildcat cartridges and I thought one was, as we know it now, a 260.

Great Question:
I too wonder how close it would mimic the 6.5 Creedmore.

John Barsness did in article on the Creedmore in either Rifle or Handloader, in which he stated that the Creedmore was basically a 250 Savage necked up, with a different should angle and the body blown out. (I'd say Ackley Improved, which I think it the term he used, but doesn't the Creedmore have a 30 degree shoulder as opposed to the AI's 40?) He even suggested fireforming 22/250 brass (cheaper than 250 brass) using the COW method as an acceptable way to achieve Creedmore cases, on the cheap. At this point, I see no reason to investigate the 260 Bobcat, unless you want something "one of a kind".

I use the 260 bobcat to compete in high power silhouette and have been very pleased with the result for the last 2 seasons. I started off using 95 gr Hornady vmax bullets for chickens, pigs, turkeys, (200, 300, 385 meters) and the 140 gr amax on rams out at 500 meters. 33.5 grains of 2520 (this is in a rifle with a Lilja 24" barrel so you wouldn't want to start there with yours!) This combo shoots like crazy with the 95 gr bullets cruising at 2900 fps. I've since gone to N150 as it burns more cleanly and to get my velocity down to 2700 fps. This is close to the sweet spot of taking down all the animals but still reducing recoil. This is a super round and can be loaded for hunting or target shooting. A lot of folks up here in WA use the 6.5x47 and 260 rem but I get the velocities they do with a smaller case and 10% + less powder. Perfect match in my book.

Cheers and happy shooting!

Thanks for the info on the 260 Bobcat. What velocities have you gotten with the 140's. Have you shot the 123's at all. If so what velocities on those as well.
I have been shooting the 6/250 and it is my favorite chambering. With the 1/8" twist I can go up to the 115 DTAC. My thought was a 6.5 on the 22/250 would be a good medium type chambering. Very hard to find any info at all on this chambering. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thinking of building a new rig and have not made up my mind what I want to go with. It will be either a 6 or 6.5 mm. Thanks again.

Sorry, did not see your subsequent posting. Hope this finds you well none the less.

Update. Now using 33gr 2520 with the 95gr vmax and 32gr 2520 for 140gr amax.

Velociteis 2685 and 2650 respectively.

I've found that slowing down the 140 is taking more rams as the bullets are holding together better on impact.

Kind regards!
