.260 AI fire forming

i am having a rifle built around a rem700 and a pac-nor 1 in 8" twist barrel in .260 remington.if i decide to go with the ackley imp.chamber can i fire form cases by using rem .260 ammunition.i know this is a bit costlier but i would be also breaking in the barrel so it would serve 2 purposes.the ackley seems to be the best 6.5 in a short action.any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I would use reloads, that way you can seat the bullets into the rifling so the firing pin doesn't drive the case into the chamber. If you re-size 7-08 cases you can leave a false shoulder. However if the AI chamber is cut right, none of the above is necessary.

Having said that, you have to remember that one of the benefits of the AI on a standard cartridge is that you can use the standard cartridge in a pinch.

price your die sets, Redding .260 improved sets are expensive compaired to the standard .260 but firing one over the other should not be much different. Ron Tilley

My 260 AI is an 8 twist heavy Pac Nor....fireforming isn't a problem...still a very accurate rifle with the FF load..a max 260 load with bullet up against the lands....get some H4831...H4350 or RE19...Lapua 308 brass..I had Lee build me a 2 pc collet/seater set for $50..when 260 AI dies were custom only..have since bought a Redding FL die along with a Forster 6.5x284 BR seater..the AI 260 is approx 200 fps faster than std 260..mine will push a moly 142 SMK out @ 2925 fps with 46/RE19..my other std 260 is also a 9 twist Pac Nor...along with having a 6.5x55 T3 Tikka...I like my 6.5s......
