260 & 260 AI Information?

How many of you out there are shooting a 260 or 260 AI?

What kind of velocities are you getting with 140 gr bullets?

What are you AI guys doing for Dies there are not a lot of options readily available for 260 AI dies?

Cheers

I am shooting one in 600 and 1000 yard BR, 130 class bullets will launch at over 3100fps and I shoot the 140 class at 2920fps.
I had a reamer made to build sizing dies off of, and used the chamber die to cut the seater. Newlon blanks to build them. Redding builds them custom but are very pricey and I heard that Hornady will build them custom reasonably priced. I think its a great cartridge. Hope it helps. Ron Tilley

I have a 260ai varmit rifle and am having a f-class rifle built in 260ai. The dies I am currently using are from ch-4d. Dies were very reasonably priced and after checking the loaded rounds on a concentricity gauge seem to be very high quality. For my f-class gun I will have a set of competetion bushing dies made by Hornady which will run around the $200 range.

I used to shoot a straight 260. Worked best for me with 123gr Lapua Scenars and Hodgdon 4350. That ran comfortably at 2950 fps, and it is a recipe that has worked with many 260 Rem Shooters.

The best I could get with the 140gr class was about 2810 fps. The Berger 130s weren't available when I had the 260 so I haven't tried them.

Straight 260 using 140 bergers or 139 Lapua. 2825fps about max with H4350 but they shoot a lot better at 2725fps. The 123 Lapuas and 130 Bergers do not shoot well for me. RL 17 is on the way soon, I will see what happens then.

Thanks for the replies!

I appreciate the information.

I am really leaning twards doing an F-class rifle in 260AI right now.

2725 fps is where I ran the 139's in my standard 260, nothing shot better than that load.

In AI, I ran them at 2925 fps and they shot good, but that slow load was awesome.

FWIW

260 - 142SMK - 30" BBL - 1-8 TW - 39.6 gr VARGET, 2840, .25 moa
260 - 142smk - do - 42.6 gr H4350, 2920, .35moa
shot .30moa in 1-8 1/2 tw bbl

appears that the 142smk likes it slower. - have shot them to 3100+ in 6.5x284 but they work best at about 29-2950 fps.

load seating started 'on the lands' and quit 'shooting' at 2200 rds and jumping 58 thou. will test reseating on lands but suspect with increased case cap. accu. may suffer with above loads.

reamer 6.5x08 HABU

Thanks for the quick feedback!

I really want to run a long barrel but have been influenced that it is not necessary... But I would like my gun to shoot well at 500 yards as well as 1000 in some wind...

I think a longer barrel will help w/ velocity slightly.

I have a few barrels chambered right now, all are 30" I have the 9 twist pushing the 130vld Bergers at 3150 with the RE17 and the 140vld Bergers out of the 8 twist at 2920fps with H4831sc
Good results. Ron Tilley
