26' barrel with 75 and 87 grainers- Velocity

Ok, I have a Lawton 7500 dual port action on the way, it will be going into short range bechrest stock, but will see varmint use.

I want the barrel to be 26" in a HV contour. I feel that I might try a 10 twist barrel, as I plan on shooting the 75 and 87 Vmax's.. but the 90 Lapua Scenars may get a go!

Will a 12 twist stabilise the 87's? I think not..but just maybe?????

Now, the most important question.. what velocity are you guys getting with the 87's and 75's out of a 26" barrel? I would like over 3100fps with the 87's and near 3250fps with the 75's. Is this acheivable, or am I dreaming?

what cartridge are we talking about .243 ai .I was getting over 3200 fps with 95 gr bergers out of a 27 " with my ai if this of any help .

Right now I`m getting 3125 in my 30"#17 Krieger in 6br, thats with 30.3grs of H4895 & 87gr v-max. I was getting 3050 with my old 28"bbl with 31.8 H4895-the new reammer my `smith used is a thight chamber reammer and the old one was a .274nk.

You`de be better off with a 1:10t if you want to shoot the 87`s, and I`m pretty sure you could shoot the 95 VDL`s with it too. I got a 1:8t so I can shoot up to 108`s...

With 75 grain VMaxes and H4350, I'm getting 3670 fps from my 26" Krieger barreled 6mm Rem. All I shoot it at is pdogs, which almost seems a waste, since it will reliably put 5 into the low .2's if I'm on top of my game. I could safely squeeze a tad more speed out of it, but I'm happy with the accuracy/speed I'm currently getting. Under even moderate wind conditions, 600 yard hits on pdogs don't surprise me anymore. This bullet at this speed cuts the wind much better than I thought it would.

My factory savage 26" .243 win barrel with 75 vmax bullets shoots 3450 fps with IMR4064. The factory HSM rounds with 75 vmax bullets gave me 3500 up to around 3600. With 87 vmax bullets I get up to 3200 fps but I haven't worked with them nearly as much. I love the 75 vmax bullets. My best group out of this gun came last saturday. It was .26" for 5 shots at 150 yards. I did not repeat this performance at the match on sunday as my best groups then were .31 at 100 and .68 at 200. This barrel is quite worn at around 900 rounds of mostly hot loads. It is a 9.25 twist. The bore scope shows heat crazing for the first 8-10 inches. I recrowned it with a dremel tool just before it shot the .26 group at 150, which I find amazing. I used the borescope to check my progress with the dremel tool until it looked pretty good and then quit messing with it. Good luck with yours.
