25XC or Not?

I see Blackjack Bullets is offering reamers for 25XC. I am curious what attributes that a 25XC might have to offer. Seems like a lot of options are out there to take advantage of the Blackjack bullets. Will this be the one for dead nuts for accuracy?

You do know those bullets are made by Sierra. They are not one at a time custom bullets. This has been reported on this forum. This does not mean they will not work for you.

There shouldn't be very much difference in performance between the X47L, XC, Or Creed Mower versions. However, I am pretty sure that Lapua is not making brass for the XC. That would be the deciding factor for me.
I shoot a 25 Norma Dasher and have a 25X47L that hasn't quite got the kinks worked out yet due to the pi$$poor weather we have had here. I have also had two 6 XC's that I wasn't overly happy with, so these are just my impressions.

Nosler give a max velocity of mid 2600’s for the 115gr. in the 250 Savage while the 25XC claims to push the 131gr to mid 2900s.

I personally have no experience with either cartridges.

Utilizing a long neck version of our 6XC Long, my bud is getting a 3250 (Oehler) node w Sierra 107s, zeroes and ones. I'll bet he could get reeel close to 2900 using the .400 long neck with those. Brass was massaged Palma.
I have a large, metal coffee can of 87gr 25s.
I NEED a quarter bore.

If this is a new build and you want top performance look into the 25SST. Guys have topped them out with the 131 around 3350 fps I believe. ADG brass available through Sherman Wildcats.

I am doing a 25x47L. Barrel is here just waiting on the reamer. Got another barrel coming that I am debating on what cartridge to do that one in. Being a speed demon is not top priority. Looking for something different to see what I can get out of it. Then it will probably end up in my safe when something else new comes along.

In my opinion the 47 is the right case for this bullet. I’ve considered a 260ai necked down to 25 though... or even a straight 25-260.

You will find that any of the reloading websites which list the .250 Savage will show data in lower levels of velocity when compared to modern cartridges. This is because the data was developed to be safe in the Savage 99 lever rifle with a rating of 53,000 PSI approximately. The data developed for the 6XC and other modern cartridges will develop their loads nearer to the 63,000 PSI and higher level. This is more than enough to account for the difference you list and slightly more. :)

With a modern chamber, the 250 Savage is as much a challenge to the 25XC as any other cartridge in this category. You can achieve 2,900 fps at reasonable pressure when using the 131 Blackjack in bolt action rifles with a 26" barrel, same as with a 25XC. The difference is so slight as to not be meaningful in my opinion. My choice goes to the XC simply for Peterson brass through David's website. There is Remington, Winchester and Hornady brass available for the .250 Savage and I've used the Remington but thrown in the towel on Winchester, unfortunately. :(

I think the XC would be as good as any to try with. I always think of small details, but would the neck of the 25xc fit through the neck hole of a 6XC bushing die? If you had to bore it some, now the ledge is thicker, so more of a donut.
I am not aware of 25XC dies made yet, not tough to get one made either though.

Our 25 XC reamers will be here in a couple weeks and one gentleman has used his bump gauge in his Tubb XC die set to use it in place of a custom bushing.

He said it was 0.283" ID and machined just as well as the 6mm bushings that come with the set.

Once the reamers come in I will confirm this usability to be true or false.

There's two main reasons we ordered 25 XC reamers.

1. Tons of great shooters have troves of XC brass.
2. Despite all the 25x47 and 25 Creedmoor reamers and similar performance that will be achieved, we had a lot of requests for 25 XC reamers - So, we put the order in.

I can't wait to see the Load Dev stats from people with the Peterson brass, Alpha, and older types.

When they arrive I will update this thread. We didn't order too many so I wouldn't expect them to be in stock very long once the news makes the XC circles.

I had my reservation on if 6BRAI would be all that was talked about - guess what - it’s working really well.... So why wouldn’t this work for NBRSA 1k matches.... My 6.5 284 short case is working well using 135 BiB’s... going to use the 25 131 in that case and see - bought the barrel and bullets..... all in !
