Anybody have a preferred powder for 257 Weatherby. I have 100 grn. Barnes TTSX, and Nosler Accubonds in 110 grn. I have some IMR 4064,4350,7828, and also H1000, Retumbo, H4350, H4831sc, RL-17,22,25.

Sako A5, with Bartelin 10 twist barrel finished at .850, McMillan Sako varmint. Going to be fun. A South Carolina cotton field gun( no soy beans or peanuts on our place this year)

A little help with powder info is all I need. I'm not that interested in your specific load data, just preferred powder with 100, and 110 grn. bullets

Thanks in advance for any info , or advice. Waverly

I know of a few that shot H1000 well with 115 gr bergers. I believe Retumbo and Rl -25 are popular as well, I would stick to the slowest Powders and avoid anything faster then these. Thats about all I can help with. I also shot and seen a old 1917 enfield with a 28' barrel that did amazing things with 85 BTs and H870 to g-hogs. but cleaner less sensitive powders are available these days.

I would give Retumbo a try myself. It makes my 264 Win mag do it's thing. I helped my hunting buddy a number of years ago work up for a custom Rem 700 mag action with a take off Rem Sendero SS fluted 25-06 barrel that he had re-chambered to 257 Weatherby. We had great success with the now discontinued H870 with 117 Sierras. H870 used to be THE powder for the 264 Win mag. Retumbo does better than H870 in the 264 Mag so it should work well with the 257 WM. The 110 Accubond should be a GREAT deer bullet in the 257 WM. I shoot the 130 Accubond in my 264 Win mag and it is awesome. I have only killed around 20 deer with this combo because I use a number of different rifles but all have been a perfect into or exit a shoulder or both shoulder shots and all but one have exited and all deer were DRT. Shots have been from 30 to right at 500 yards. I recovered the bullet from that one that it did not exit. Deer was almost facing me at 111 yards. Bullet was placed on the edge of the left shoulder which it smashed taking out the lungs and was found against the smashed ball socket of the right ham when cutting up the meat. Bullet weight was 87 grs with a text book mushroom. That bullet still had to be going over 3100 fps at impact because it started out at 3350 fps. That says GOOD BULLET to me. I hunt up in north east NC in the bean/cotton fields. I really like the .257s. I shoot a 25-06 a lot with 117 Sierras. DEADLY! Good luck with your work up.

I had good results with Barnes 100 grain ttsx and rl22 powder. I had good results with 115/120 Nosler partitions and h1000. The 100 grain Barnes bullets work great on rabbits and pd's, will have explosive action to say the least.

I don't have a 257 WM but I do have a 6mm AI . I shoot all my deer with Nosler 85 and 100 gr "partition" bullets at 3500 (85's) to 3300 ( 100's). These are estimates.
Never lost a deer!

I would really like to hear some input on the Barnes TSX bullets in 6mm sense they only come in 80/85 gr TSX models now.

Hi Waverly, what I'm getting at is you might want to seriously try the Barnes TSX bullets in your 257 WM.
Supposedly they have worked out the accuracy problems and they should provide the kind of performance on impact that your 257 WM needs.

Sorry, I can't help with the powder. I don't own a 257 WM.

I shoot only 100gr bullets in mine. RL22 powder is just sensational in both guns.......12" and 10" twist.

I use 100gr. ballistic tip hunting, I4350. With deer it is instant 4 feet in the air. Couple of elk went maybe 10'. I'm next door to you in UT but hunt ID.
