.257 Weatherby

crackshot

Silver $$ Contributor
Just had a GRE-'TAN 257 Weatherby built on a Borden Rimrock action w/ Broughton barrel. Any suggestions for loads using a 115 gr Berger?

Have one from years ago.Favorite hunting rifle. Best loads are with 90gr in mine.
Good Luck

I'm on the 3rd barrel with my 257wby. I've had good accuracy with RL22; H4831; IMR4350, I always use the Federal 215 mag primers. Right now I'm shooting the 100gr TSX's for deer. I was loading 87gr Sierras @ 3870 fps for varmints, that load will even turn large varmints into a greasy spot on the ground. If I was going to try that 115gr Berger, I would start with RL22 or IMR7828. Good luck with a wicked caliber,
Gary

I have a custom 257 WBY, no excessive freebore. I use H1000, Berger 115 and found 2 nodes with a ladder at 300 yds. Three shot MOA at each node was 0.115. Get good fill and consistent MV. I choose the lower velocity node to minimize barrel wear.

Jim Scott likes the 100 gr Barnes. I have no free bore and a chamber to seat bullets out. Will those grooves on the Barnes hinder magazine feeding? I have a HS-Precision DBM.

RL22, H-4831, H1000 and Retumbo would be the powders I would give a try. H870 used to be a great powder for the 257W but it is not made any more.

was reading and article in Handloader magizine on the weatherby's and Norma MRP and RL22 seem to be the powder's of choice. but the MRP being the prefered choice.
