.257 Roberts

Hello Everyone don't really know where to start. I had a Custom Rifle built in 257 Roberts, pics will be posted soon). It is built on a Remington 700 Long Action, Douglas air gaged barrel 26' long. The barrel is a 1:10 twist for the heavy bullets. Stock is from Richard's micro fit Exhibition grade walnut with the feather crotch. Stock has been fully bedded action trued and the whole deal. I guess my main question is have any of you messed with the 'Bob'. So far the best/most consistent load is a minimum charge of IMR 4350 behind a Sierra Spitzer Boat Tail. I have a 5 shot group that measures .320. But have only done it once seems like I always have a flier. I am really wanting to try some H4350. Like I said pics will be posted of the rifle soon any input would be greatly appreciated.

Try the flat base 117 gr Sierra Pro hunter bullet. Many rifles will shoot a flat base bullet much better than a boat tail bullet. Those so call 'fliers' are usually shooter era not load or rifle era. I don't have a BOB but I do shoot a 25-06 a lot for deer. My custom Rem 700 Shilen SS light varmint barrel does not like boat tail bullets at all but will put 5 of the 117 Sierra flat base bullets in 1 inch at 300 yards if I do my part on a windless day. This bullet is a real deer killer. It is bang flop 99% of the time.

I just got home from the gunsmiths house and picked up some 115gr VLD Berger bullets. I have never heard anything bad about the Berger bullets. Any of you guys have much success with em?

I have had good results over the years with Nosler 115 gr Partitions and BLC-2 and Nosler 110 gr Acutip and IMR 4831, both with Winchester LR Primers and +P brass. Both do about 1' at 200 yds from my Mauser 98 custom rifle with a 24' barrel. They are great deer and antalope loads.

What beautiful looking wood. I have owned some .257 Robs over the years, Rem 722, M70 feather, Ruger Hawkeye, and have been disappointed. That happens. Factory rifles are throated too short for that cartridge. Glad to hear that you are happy with yours.

117 Sierra Pro Hunters and 4831 shoot great in my 257. If I load around 46 grains IN MY RIFLE accuracy is excellent. Over that it falls off drastically. Looks like we're shooting similar rifles - mine's on a mauser action with custom stock and barrel. BUT your stock is really something else - nice rig!

start off by saying what a dang nice piece you have. just a little jealous!!
try sierra, 87spt, varget 39.4, I have had very good luck with this load. my favorite load is the sierra 117sbt, H4831, 46.0 grains. this is my best shooting load. i have loaded this in 117sbt, 117spt flat base, and the 120 hpbt, and they all shoot extremely well in my rifle. That load also shoots very well in my buddy's rifle, which has a kreiger barrel on it. mine is a all factory gun. the 117 bullets will handle anything i think.
