250AI body die

My question is, will the 22-250AI body die work with the 250 Savage AI? I wasn't sure about neck clearance. Redding is closed until 1-3. Was hoping someone here might know. Thx
I have the FL Redding die set which has never been right. The sizer was reworked by Redding. It originally caused .010 TIR neck runout. It still isnt right after 3 weeks with them. I think if I shoulder bump with a body die and then use a lee collet neck die I should be fine.

I think it would work in the reverse direction, but not the way you want. The body die has to be able to push the shoulder back and size the base of the case without touching the neck. Your problem will be, in essence, trying to push a .257 copper tube through a .224 hole. The case neck thickness should be the same for both.

I'm thinking the same as Doc doc.
You can body size the 22-250AI in a 250AI die.
But to put the 250AI in the 22-250AI, it would end up sizing the neck down to 22 caliber.

I was worried about that. There would be more shoulder on a 22 cal than on a 25 cal. Looks like im going to have to order custom dies. Thanks for the help.

Usually a body die has an oversized neck that you can access from the top. If you're 25 neck will fit from the top(case upside down) you may be in luck. Hope that makes sense. Hard to put into words. Good luck!

Was just lookig into that Paul, thank you. The problem is having to buy the die to find out. I'm looking into custom dies at the moment. Are the Whidden dies of good quality? I've never used them. RCBS has become a big disappointment since past years when they made wildcat dies. Redding isnt even on the table after this 250 debacle.

I have one custom sizing die from Whidden that was made to my specs for my 6.5 x 47 Lapua. They hit the numbers exactly as I requested. Very good die and company in my limited experience.

Thanks Paul. Went back and checked my brass and found that there is a .003 variation in concentricity on the body below the shoulder where the concentricity roller was riding. Checked fired cases and no variation there. I'm thinking that bumping the 40 degree shoulder is causing a bit of body flex just below the shoulder. This translated into exaggerated false readings on the neck and bullet. Next time I run into higher than normal runout I'll certainly check body concentricity.
