I have a bunch of 250 Savage brass I would like to make into 6.5 Creedmoor. Is this possible, and if it is, how do I do it? Thanks for your help.
250 Savage brass is readily available. Is the .250 Savage brass new or fired?
If this is new brass I would suggest selling it because you can get a good price for new Savage brass since it is very unavailable right now. Then take your windfall from this sale and buy new Creedmoor brass.
Regards.
250 Savage is the parent case for 6.5 Creedmoor. Generally speaking the 250 Savage brass is thicker than 22/250 & thus more durable. Probably not as durable as Lapua 22/250 but will certainly do the job....... One pass through the Creedmoor die and you're ready for fire forming. .......... the 6.5 Creedmoor forum has ample info on this conversion. You'll only be expanding the neck of 250 Savage brass by .014" as opposed to Approx. .040" for 22/250 brass which, realistically, would require a 2-step necking up process. Hope this helps.I have a 250 Savage but have plenty of brass shot in my gun. I only have 5 boxes that were once shot when I got them and those I would like to convert to 6.5 Creedmoor. Would this be a lot of work? I have loaded pistol cartridges for years but all were straight wall. I'm new to rifle reloading.
Norma now makes 6.5 creedmoor brassHmmm, looking at the 250 savage dimensions, I've gotta say; why? It's not as bad as converting 375H&H to 308 win; but creedmoor brass is available and I would expect the fire forming of the taper of 250 savage to 6.5 Creed body to cause problems.
Worst case, smelt the brass into disks, repress 6.5 Creed from the results and go forth and conquer.
I would recommend selling the 250 brass and acquiring 6.5 with the earnings.
