25 creedmoor or 25-06?

Thinking of building a 25 Creedmoor, but I know a guy who has a 700V in 25-06 I might be able to talk him out of. I still have my reloading stuff for the '06 but open to going to the Creedmoor.

Pro's/Con's on one vs the other?

25GT might be another.

Would be used for our varmint silhouette matches.

I wonder if some sort of 6mm like a 6 Creedmoor, 6 BR, 6 Dasher, 6 XC, 6 GT, 6 PRC would maybe suit your needs better then a 25 cal.

I've never shot a 25 Creed so my opinion is going to be bias but here it is. I have no ideal what the creed will or can do so i have no input on that one. I have however been shooting a 25.06 for around 35yrs and i know without a doubt what it's capable of and I've never needed more or less to kill deer and coyotes. It's a fast flat shooting caliber with mild recoil that hits the target hard. I guess you could say i have a love for the 25.06 :).

25 creed will general outshoot it with less powder...
How do you come up with that
It's possible what was meant is they believe/d one will outshoot as in more accurate then the other. I'm generally of the belief no particular cartridge is any more or less accurate then another but rather those that are less overbore can be easier to tune or keep in tune then those that use more powder.

The 25-06 and 25-284 are near twins and both have a fairly significant case capacity advantage over the Creedmoor size case. Pressure and barrel length being equal, I'd imagine the 25-06 & 25-284 would both launch the same weight bullets 150-ish fps faster then a 25CM would.

"outperform..." is only an opinion. Unless, you have about ten rifles in each cartridge with 30" length barrels (cut back in 2" increments) and bullets and powders and primers; and an indoor tunnel to test velocity and drop out to 600M.
I remember Elmer Keith and Jack O'Connor debating the 30-06 VS 270 in articles for (imho) the American Rifleman perhaps half a century ago. Next month's issue had (iirc) another staffer postulating that "in the hands of an expert rifleman the 280 Remington out performs both...!".
My vote, backed up by building one: the 25-284. Because, wait for it; I built the .25-284.

Note: I finally figured out how to post an avatar! I wanted either my Kudu or better yet my Cape Buffalo.
Anybody impressed?

The big 25–0 for hunting, the 25 creed reformed Lapua brass for competition.
Speaking of competition.....what about the 71 consectutive bullseyes at 1,000yds at Camp Perry with an 1903 Springfield battle rifle equipped with open battle sights chambered in .30-govt-06? German Salazar also did extremely well using a .30-06 target rifle in long range target shooting, just to name a couple of examples of .30-06 performance. The .30-06 is not dead.....not by a long shot.

Not for hunting, but for our varmint silhouette matches. 500 yds is max range right now. Playing with a 22GT right now. No velocity limits on the 22's, but a 3200 fps limit on bullets in larger calibers with a 6.5 caliber max dia. I have a 6.5Cr and 6BR, but have always liked the quarter bore. My first centerfire rifle was a win 1892 in 25-20.

Usually, when we shoot the match, the wind is from 3 o'clock at anywhere from 20-40mph for the first shooters and can be calm to 20mph from 9 o'clock for the last ones a few hours later. I have seen the 200yd wind flags horizontal at 9 o'clock, 337 yd also horizontal, but at 3 o'clock and the 417 back to 9 o'clock and the 500 at 6 o'clock going uphill. Plays havoc with bullet drop.

That 25-06 in the Rem 700V would be a fantastic rig. The only benefit you would have with building the Creed would be utilizing the new fast twist barrels and corresponding heavy bullets. From personal experiences there is not much if anything that will walk away from a .25-06 and the 115gr Berger bullet.

I’m a huge fan of the 25-06, I’ve owned three over the years, deadly. That being said if I was looking for another quarter bore I’d probably run with the creed if choosing between the 2, proper head stamped brass would be nice. I’m currently enjoying a 25x47, it’s been awesome on deer and vermin, I do wish I could get proper head stamped brass for it though. No wrong choice in my opinion but I’ve always been a 25 caliber fan.

I’ve got one set of brass for the 6.5 Creedmoor that is small primer Starline. I was thinking if I did need extra brass for the 25 I could use that and the primer size would identify it sort of. Being the way I am, I went ahead and bought 150 Hornady cases and 2 boxes of 134 eld-m’s from Blue Collar the other day. Gotta start somewhere, lol!
