Got my barreled action back from Beanland last week.
Defiance anti short action
Bart 2b,7.5 twist at 23”
Axial Precision stock
Hawkins BDL
Talley lightweight rings
Trijicon credo HX 2.5-15x42 (23oz)
8 lbs 2 oz. total
Before shooting I bedded the action and applied duracoat to the metal surfaces.
Took it out to try a few loads, still waiting for 131 blackjacks or 133/135 bergers.
Using new Peterson brass and Tula primers I loaded a few ladders to find pressure.
I started with 41.6 H4350 and 110 tipped game king bullets.
Shot 5 of those to get zero and foul the bore at 100 yards.
Moved back to 400 yards and shot two small ladders from 42.2-43.4 in .3 increments.
No pressure and 42.5-43.1 looked good for vertical.
Next up was the 121 hammer, these are long and with the 131 reamer there is more bullet in the case than out.
Ladder was 41.3-42.5 in .3 increments
41.6-42.2 looked good for vertical with slight pressure at 42.2 and obvious pressure at 42.5 so calling 42.0 max.
Next was 110 tgk with varget
Ladder was 39.0-39.8 in .2 increments
39.2-39.6 looked good for vertical, no pressure.
Next was 121 hammer and varget.
Ladder was 38.4-39.2 in .2 increments.
38.6 showed pressure so I didn’t shoot any more.
Next was Barnes 100 ttsx and varget
Ladder was 38.5-39.4 in .3 increments
38.5-38.8 looked best and no pressure signs so room to go higher.
Wanting to save my H4350 for the heavy bullets when I get them, I loaded a few rounds with
110 tgk, 39.4 varget, Tula LRM primers in new Peterson brass.
Fired 8 shots into .6” at 100 yards with average FPS of 3052 and ES of 12.
121 hammer, 38.2 varget, Tula LRM primer
Fired 8 shots into .7” at 100 yards with average FPS of 2940 and ES of 15. A couple of the rounds had slight pressure signs.
My conclusion is, both the 110 TGK and 121 hammer would be fine under 400 yards for hunting but I wouldn’t call either ideal in this set up. I think the twist is too fast for the 110’s and the case is too small or freebore too short for the 121.
The rifle is set up for 130 class cup and core bullets and I suspect that is where it will shine.
I’ll update when I get something heavier.
Maybe this info will help someone just starting with the 25 creed.
