25-7PRC forming question.

Whilst on another forum, one of the members is jumping into a 25-7PRC build.

For necking down his casings, he was recommended to use a 25 WSSM die, "because the 25 WSSM body is larger than the PRC case body and won't contact it".

My recommendation was to do as @calib did and use a bushing die.

So my question would be, if using the 25 WSSM touching the neck only, would there be a concern for the neck not being concentric?

A 25 wssm case is 1.670” and a 7prc is 2.280” and they are don’t have same measurements. Not sure why someone would not use a 7prc die. Even if the die contacts the body it won’t effect anything. Many people size new brass before first firing. Using a 7prc bushing die with the correct bushing for .257 makes the most since. I use a 6.5prc bushing die for my 25prc and 6prc with no issues.

I think the thought for those that were using the wssm die was that they had it on hand, had sme or similar shoulder shape, but lso that it would size all the way to the shoulder due to the oversize of the die and they could use it while waiting for proper dies to come in

The length doesn't matter, He would be simply using it as a neck die. The PRC cases are smaller in diameter than the Winchester Short mags, So it would not get stuck as you go up into the die, But using a bushing die would make more sense.

I do a lot of Wildcatting, If you bought dies for every caliber you would go broke quick. Using other cartridge dies is one way of getting around it, I also have every Universal neck sizing die that Hornady made, Unfortunately they have discontinued making them.

I also have their universal seating dies, I also have a Frankford Arsenal Universal seating die set which is excellent if you do a lot of wildcatting.
