25 45 Sharps info/data??

Ive been away for some time. I dont seem to see any postings for the Sharps. Please direct me if Im missing it.

There was a fair bit of buzz about it about 6 or 8 months ago. I even saw an article in I think Shooting Times about it but it seems to have died a sudden death. I have not heard or ready anything about it since then.

I feel like commercialized wildcats from small companies just don't stand much of a chance. They really need to keep pushing marketing hard, but they've just dropped off the map completely instead.

It doesn't exactly scream 'accurate' so I'm not surprised there isn't much info here. I think for a military cartridge it's an excellent improvement in terminal energy over 5.56 without losing any benefits of the small cartridge. It's a decent novice hunting cartridge, especially states where 223/5.56 isn't legal for medium size game. Beyond that, it's not as flexible as 300 Blackout and can't shoot higher BC bullets like 6.5 Grendel so it gets lost in the variety for the AR-15 crowd.

SRC over hyped the performance, though, stuffing insane amounts of powder in the case and testing in 24" barrels to get the advertised velocities. I wore out a barrel pretty quickly by chasing their advertised performance. And, the AR-15 magazine case length limit keeps the higher BC bullets from working well when trying to stretch the distance out, although a bolt gun could use the longer bullets pretty well.

For anyone interested, I found the Sierra 90gr BlitzKing to be best at distance, the 100gr Speer HotCor to have the best terminal energy, and the Lehigh 85gr Controlled Chaos to be fast and devastating. Just don't expect to match the advertised velocities without a custom barrel and a really tall powder drop, and fully paid life insurance. ;-)

It has its place, and it's quite good in those specific cases, but beyond that it's a dud.

I've been able to achieve 3000 fps with my AR using 75gr bullets but had to sacrifice range brass to accomplish it. So I would like to experiment with a single shot bolt gun with a longer throat to see if I can get more than one firing from the case. Who knows I might even see how many firings I can get out of Lapua and Norma brass...or I guess I could build a 257 Kimber.

Put one together on a Savage Bolt action and started working on loads. Got distracted but it wasn't setting the world on fire, actually a
bit disappointing. The 6x45mm is a lot more fun and you can throw some heavier 90 to 100 grainers with authority. Loaded right with 70 grain bullets
showed good accuracy. FPS close to 3200.

I have a 25-223, built on a Savage action with a no nut Lilja 23.5" bull barrel. I can get 110gr accubonds up to 2700fps with really good accuracy, 75-85gr from 3050-3150, 100gr smks at 2750fps with sub 1/2moa accuracy. It's a sweet little bolt action round when you can seat a bullet longer than AR mag length.

I have thought about building an AR in that round but really like my 6.8s for shooting 85-120gr from the AR so haven't really looked into it.

While I would hate to see a Wyoming company fail but the 6x45 is just a better AR round all together.

I might need to get back to that 25-45. What are your powders of choice?

H335 has worked great for me in my 25-223 other than throats it is probably the same round as the sharps.

My 110gr accubond load smokes cases in about 4 loadings, using Nosler brass. LC cases work great, I haven't tried Lapua or Norma cases.

I'm going to bring this old thread back to life. My second twenty-five Goofy rifle was built earlier this year. Even the new full-blown custom job is not happy with the 70 grain Lyman gas checked cast bullet. The old one seems to be deer hunting capable w/ the 87 Sierra SP bullet & H335 powder at the starting load. The new one built with a custom min. free bore reamer is just not up to my standards using a mild dose of Unique powder. I'd love to hear what others have done with this cartridge in Semi-auto & bolt guns.. Mike in Ct

I would like a 6x45. The only reason is the vast choice of bullets. I almost bought an AR platform in the 25x45 Sharps but didn’t see advantages over the 6x45. I think it’s a cool ideal though. Are you going to run it in a bolt gun or AR platform?

Sort of the same idea, I have 2 .25-.222's. Have never tried any "Game" Bullets but a nicer walking around varmint rifle you could hardly ask for.
I should have built a 25 Copperhead 25/222Rem. older proven design. better neck for cast bullets. mike in ct. MINE IS A CZ527 rebored & A Rem. 700 action. 2 fussy projects

I built a load and shoot 275 Kimber clone close to 18 yrs ago. It is the 25-204, just expand the necks and load them and go forth and kill stuff. 100gr Partition at 2850, 85gr NBT at 3000 and 75gr V-max at 3150 out of a 21 inch barrel and easy on the brass. Matches original 250-3000 and 257 Roberts factory ballistics. Too powerful for coyotes huge exits, the only way I can keep them in a coyote is shoot them the longway with the V-Max. It is the perfect whitetail cartridge with the 100gr Partition and I would really like to draw an antelope tag and try the 85 NBT's.

I was looking seriously at the 257 Kimber when the 204 hit the market and realized that it was just about identical to the 257 Kimber and I could build it and shoot it with off the shelf dies and no need to fire form. Even the barrel work was easy-peasy. The barrel maker cut the chamber with a 204 Reamer then cut the neck and throat separately to my mockups.

Too long for an AR and today I don't know if there would be any advantage to it over a 6.5 Grendle but they weren't around back then.
