25-30lb 6mmbr/Dasher

Hi

Has anyone shot a 6mmbr or a Dasher in the heavygun class, both 600yds and 1000, and done any good?

Is there a maximum weight you feel before the rifle would not recoil properly? I was thinking around the 25-30lb mark.

It would be like a railgun.

Also, I have had the strange urge to use the 6.5X47L case and make a long necked dasher. It would have the Dasher body, and keep the 6mmbr's original neck length? It appears the shoulder would have to be pushed back about 5mm.

For components, I would be thinking a Viper drop port, 1.25" 30" barrel and a Richards lowrider stock, to get the centre of gravity down. Do you feel that this combination could reach my estimated weight? There is not much stock to work with to lead fill!

I don't think you need to go all the way to 30+ pounds for a Dasher. I shot one a couple of years ago at about 25 pounds and it was like shooting a 22. They are even a pleasure to shoot at 17 pounds plus it gives you the option of using the rifle in both LG and HG.

I tried a long neck Dasher back in 2003. We didn't have the 6.5x47 brass so I used the Rem BR Basic. I called it the PRANCER. But, it didn't do anything the Dasher couldn't do so I gave up on it because brass forming was a real chore. With the new Lapua it would be a lot easier so maybe it's worth looking at it again.

Stiller says the drop was designed to fit up to a 30 dasher...you may not be able to drop a longneck dasher out the port...

Thanks guys for the replies!

Yes, the extra length maybe a problem. I'll measure my diamondback drop port length. I dont think it will, or if it does, it might not be reliable.

When my 6.5-284 barrel is in the garden, I may use the BAT MB dualport action for this little project then if the drop port does not work.

25lbs sounds like a good weight. Do you think that 25lbs could be reached using the lowrider stock?

I currently shoot a 17 pound dasher using a Panda microport, and love it.

I might get my hands on some 6.5X47L cases and see how it goes making the long necked dasher! With the longer neck, will get a little more powder in, which will set it up for the 115DTAC's nicely!
