Seemed that the 75 gr just ran out of steam at 300 yards
I used the Sierra 75 gr which does not have a very good BC. I noticed too many hits where the groundhog crawled back to the hole. With 85/87 gr bullets every hit was a kill, even past 400 yards. In 40 years of varminting with the .25-06 I found the 85/87 to be a very deadly bullet. Even though I could not see the hit through a scope I could hear it, sounded like someone slapping a board on water.Really?? I know of several coyotes that lost their lives at over 400 yards that would differ with you. "If" I remember correctly, the 75 gr bullet still has about 1000 ft,lbs. of energy at 300 yards.
For 110 gr -120 gr bullets, it's hard to beat H4831sc.Recently added a .25-06 to my gun locker and am looking for some starting points for reloading. I'll be loading 75g V-max and 110 ELD's.
