25-06

Hey guys im new at this and ive heard good things about this site....anyways i have a Howa model 1500 25-06 Rem. sporter and i recently hand loaded some 117g. nosler ballistic tips with IMR 4350 and i shot a few groups and could not get ANY!!! consistency. One group i shot 2 through the same hole and the next was probably a 5 inch pattern no matter how long i let the barrel cool down.......Hopefully someone has heard or had the same problem?????
Any Ideas??
thanks, Dan

I had the same problem. What I did was take the loads from minimum to maximum in .5 increments. Like say minimum is 40.0 grains and maximum is 46.5 grains, start at 40.0 then 40.5 then 41.0 then 41.5 then 42.0 then 42.5 until you get to the maximum. This is how I found a very very accurate load in my Rem. 700 .243. I just loaded 5 rounds of each load, and shot them at 100 yards to find the most accurate load. Then I went to 200 yards, after that I went to 300. And I was still shooting sub MOA groups.

So good luck and I hope you get a good accurate load!

Dan,

A 5' variation is not a powder or load issue. You have a mechanical issue.

Likely this much of a variation is not at bedding issue. Bedding issues are usually a 1/2 to 1' variation.

Double check that your scope rings and bases are correct. Something may be loose.

If all is tight and you find nothing loose or moving you should suspect that the Point of Impact of the scope is drifting. Happens often.
