25/06 rem

am going to use this for varmint and deer, for deer im shooting a 100 gr noselor balistic tip, with rem case and rem primer, and imr 4350 at 50 gr seems to be the best ive found for a tight group of 2 inches at 300yrd is there better for deer and what should i use for coyotes at 300 yrds the hornady v-max 75 gr.need lots of info and ill be back tim 58 thanks for allowing me to join /use this site

Work up to about 54 gr AA2700 with those 100 gr NBTs and watch the groups shrink and the velocity go up. I prefer to stick with the NBTs and shoot the 85-115 gr NBTs will very near the same zero.

For the 100 gr bullet either a Nosler ballistic tip or a Sierra and 52 grs. of IMR 4350 is about the most accurate load for 100 grs. in most 25-06's I have worked with. This is a good all round bullet and load for most anything from deer on down. I have had better accuracy with CCI 250 and CCI BR2 primers. My favorite load for the 25-06 for deer size game is the Sierra 117 gr. bullet, either one FB or BT, the rifle that I have right now likes the FB best. 49 grs of either IMR or AA 4350 they shoot to the same POI and are dog nuts accurate, Remington case, CCI 250 primer, OAL 3.150 my rifle likes the bullet backed off the lands a bit. This load clocks 3000 fps from my 26 inch Shilen barrel. The 25-06, especially with this load is the deadliest drop a deer in it's tracks round I have ever seen and I have shot deer with almost every caliber from 22 LR through 45-70. A load I use for ground hog shooting is with the 87 gr. Sierra spitzer with 52.2 grs. IMR 4350, CCI 250 primer, Remington case, OAL 3.150 this will red mist a ground hog. Don't expect to keep hides from any critter you shoot with any bullet in a 25-06 unless you are very good at gig-saw puzzles.

I have had good luck with my 25-06 with IMR-4350, good accuracy and velocity. My deer load is a 100 grain Sierra pro-hunter, they don't cost an arm and a leg to practice with like Noslers or Barnes. My favorite varmint bullet is the 75 grain V-max, like the fella said your not saving any pelt's with this one. If you can't get the 75 grain v-max to shoot good, or just want a heavier varmint bullet. I like the Speer 87 grain Tnt. My new 25-06 ackley shoots them well to 800 yards or so.

I was wondering If anybody has tried the Sierra 90 grain boattail hollow point?? How do you like it?

thanks guys for the good info just what i was looking for,as for saving pelts a shame, cause i can tan my own skins into good useable leather deer skins are by far the most time consuming thing, but also the most rewarding to own and handle, just like my 25/06 savage rifle pleasant to shoot, nice to carry what more could i ask for but decent accuracy and i think im on the way to that for sure, thanks again for the fine info,,,,, Tim58

I shoot a 100 TSX over 53 grains of H4350 in Rem cases. Shoots 1/2" groups in my Rem Mtn rifle

I have shot a coyote with a 100 grain Nosler partition without severe damage. Using a heavy constructed bullet like that would prevent alot of damage. I think Barnes even makes a solid brass 100 grain bullet intended for saving pelts, never shot any though.

I've taken two mulie bucks with virtually the same load as dww - a 100 gr Barnes TSX over 53 grains of H4350. It produces 3340 fps from the 24" Rem 700 CDL factory barrel and shoots about 2.5 - 3" groups at 300 yards. Dynamic, quick kills on both mulie bucks too. Surprisingly little damage to the deer hides - I could barely find the entrance wound or the exit wound until I was cleaning and skinning the deer, but the heart & lungs were severely damaged by that little bullet.

For 'yotes I use the good old 100 gr Sierra SPBT over a milder charge of 50 grains of H4350 - it only makes 3200 fps but shoots with very good accuracy and tears up the yotes pretty bad. Sudden death on rockchucks too.

Over the few years I've been using a .25-06 it has become both my favorite deer rifle, and my favorite multi-purpose deer, predator & varmint rifle.

Regards, Guy

gentelmen,I was told years ago to buy a good shooting 25/06 rifle and id be set for life with the many others i have, however i can see why i waited so long in getting it it has become my all time favorite, one flat shooting little bullet for sure, and very under rated compared to the .270, 30/06 and 257 roberts, also a almost unheard of caliber,257 i still am in favor of the Hornady 75 gr v-max with only starting loads,i put five shots in a group i can hide with a quater,at 100 yards and will hit a playing card all day at 250 yards other than that i havent yet scored a deer, nys season is almost over and i aint seen nothin, too prepared im quessing) for that once in a life time shot on a slamming nys big buck im learning what my 25/06 will do i bought it for varmints like red fox and coyotes at distance, i dont dare hunt them at night too dangerous alone but with a buddy then id go in a heart beat tim58
